Moreshwar (Mayureshwar) Temple - Ashtavinayak

Recognized as the starting and ending point of the Ashtavinayak pilgrimage, this temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is deeply significant for devotees seeking darshan and spiritual fulfillment.

The temple’s sanctum houses Lord Ganesha, accompanied by other deities such as Riddhi, Siddhi, Nagnabhairava, Lakshminarayan, Shiva, Parvati, Kama, Rati, Mahivaraha, Shami Devi, Lord Hanuman, and Nandi. There is also a memorial to the Ganapatya saint Moraya Gosavi.

The architecture reflects a blend of ancient and renovated styles, with the temple’s origins tracing back to the Bahamani era and later expansions by Peshwa rulers and Moraya Gosavi during the Maratha period.

The temple holds state heritage status, underscoring its historical and cultural importance. Moreshwar Temple welcomes pilgrims daily from 5:00 AM to 10:30 PM.

Several poojas and rituals are performed throughout the day, including the Prakshal Puja (Morning Cleansing & Abhisheka) at 5:00 AM, Shodashopachar Puja at 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM, and the Samudaik Evening Aarti at 7:30 PM.

Panchopachar Puja is held at 8:00 PM, followed by Shej Aarti (Night Rest Aarti) at 10:00 PM. Devotees can also participate in General Abhisheka or special sponsorship sevas between 6:00 AM and 12:00 PM for a nominal fee. Poojas are conducted in Marathi and Sanskrit.

Darshan options include free darshan, special darshan (₹100), and VIP darshan. The temple observes a traditional dress code: men are expected to wear dhoti, kurta-pajama, or clean trousers with a shirt, while women should choose saree, salwar kameez, or churidar.

Modern or revealing attire is discouraged, especially inside the sanctum. Major festivals celebrated here include Ganesh Chaturthi (Bhadrapada Utsav) in August–September, Maghi Ganesh Jayanti in January–February, monthly Chaturthi days, and Somavati Amavasya.

The best time to visit is during winter (November–February), early mornings, or festival seasons. Reaching Moreshwar Temple is convenient from Pune via the Pune-Saswad-Jejuri road (NH 965) or the Pune-Solapur Highway (NH 65).

The nearest railway stations are Jejuri (17 km), Uruli (29 km), and Pune Junction (64 km). Pune International Airport is 67 km away. Ample parking is available near the temple, with wheelchair accessibility up to the outer courtyard.
