Parvati (Devdeveshwar) Temple

Perched atop Parvati Hill in the Parvati Paytha area, this temple complex is a significant spiritual and historical landmark, built during the Maratha period by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao (Nanasaheb Peshwa).

The temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva, with Goddess Parvati as a principal deity, and also houses shrines for Bhavani Devi, Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganapati, Lord Surya, Kartikeya, and Vitthal-Rukmini, making it a prominent destination for devotees seeking darshan of multiple deities.

The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with the best time to visit being early mornings between 5 and 8 AM, during the evening aarti, or in the winter months from November to February.

Pilgrims can participate in a variety of poojas, including Mangala Aarti or Morning Aarti from 4:00 AM to 7:00 AM, Rudrabhishek/Jalabhishek, Madhyanha (Midday) Pooja around 12:00 PM, and Sandhya or Evening Aarti from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

Rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Marathi, and darshan is free for all visitors.

The temple observes several important festivals, such as Shravan Mas Utsav (July–August), Maha Shivratri (February–March), Ganesh Chaturthi/Ganeshotsav (August–September), and Vaikuntha Chaturdashi & Kartik Pournima (November–December).

During these times, the temple comes alive with special poojas, community prasad distribution, and festive celebrations. Standard dry prasad, including sugar granules, vibhuti, and kumkum, is distributed after aartis, while community food sharing is organized during major festivals.

To reach Parvati (Devdeveshwar) Temple, visitors can arrive in Pune via Pune Junction or Swargate and proceed by auto-rickshaw, PMPML bus, or cab to Parvati Paytha at the base of the hill. From there, a climb of 103 stone steps leads to the temple complex.

The nearest railway stations are Pune Junction (6 km) and Shivajinagar (6.5 km), while Pune International Airport is about 15 km away. Limited parking is available at the base, with easier access for two-wheelers; four-wheeler parking can be challenging, especially on weekends.

Note that there is no wheelchair access to the hilltop. Devotees are encouraged to follow the dress code: traditional or modest attire for men and conservative clothing for women.

Photography is strictly prohibited near the main shrines and active worship areas but allowed in exterior courtyards and for panoramic views. For accommodation, several hotels and guesthouses are available near Parvati Paytha and in nearby areas such as Swargate and Deccan.
