About

Male Mahadeshwara Temple, also known locally as MM Hills, Male Mahadeshwara Betta, and Sri Male Mahadeshwara Swamy Devasthana, is a revered pilgrimage centre dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Nestled atop the scenic Mahadeshwarabetta in the Male Mahadeshwara Hills of Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka, this ancient hill temple is renowned for its Dravidian architectural style and spiritual ambiance.

The temple is a significant destination for devotees and spiritual seekers, drawing visitors from across Karnataka and beyond. The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 9:30 PM, with an afternoon break from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM.

For those planning a visit, early mornings between 5:00 and 8:00 AM, weekdays, and the winter months from November to February are considered the best times to experience peaceful darshan and avoid crowds.

Festival seasons also offer a vibrant atmosphere, with major celebrations like Maha Shivaratri (February–March), Deepavali (October–November), Ugadi (March–April), Navarathri Theppothsava (September–October), and Karthika Masa (November–December).

Devotees can choose from multiple darshan options, including free darshan, special darshan (₹50 and ₹300), and VIP darshan (₹500). The temple conducts various poojas such as Abhisheka on general days and special days, Maharudrabhisheka on Thursdays, and daily Golden and Silver Car Processions.

Poojas are performed in Kannada and Sanskrit, catering to the linguistic preferences of pilgrims. The famous prasadam here is the Laddu, and free breakfast and meals are served daily at Dasoha Bhavana, enhancing the temple’s tradition of hospitality.

Visitors are encouraged to adhere to the temple’s dress code: men should wear modest attire like dhoti, pyjama, or shirt and trousers, while women are advised to wear saree, half-saree with blouse, or chudidhar with pyjama and upper cloth.

Reaching Male Mahadeshwara Temple is convenient from major cities. From Bengaluru, take Kanakapura Road (NH948) via Ramanagaram, Channapatna, Malavalli, and Kollegal, then proceed through Hanur and up the forested ghat road to MM Hills. Mysuru visitors can drive via Bannur and T.

Narasipura, join the main route to Kollegal, and continue towards Hanur and MM Hills. The nearest railway stations are Kollegal (75 km), Chamarajanagar (90 km), and Mysore Junction (140 km). Mysuru Airport is 125 km away, and Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, is 230 km away.

Accommodation is available at temple guest houses like Nagamale Bhavana, Jenumale Bhavana, and JSS Guest House, as well as private lodges nearby. Advance booking is recommended.

The temple complex offers free parking, wheelchair-accessible entrances, and allows photography in exterior areas (not inside the sanctum). For more information, online darshan, and reservations, visit the official website at https://mmhillsreservation.com.

Nearby attractions include Taalu Betta, Nagamale Betta, Barachukki and Hogenakkal Waterfalls, and the Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary, making this a spiritually and naturally enriching destination.
