About

Evoor Major Sri Krishnaswamy Temple, located in the Onattukara region of Evoor, Alappuzha district, Kerala, is a revered pilgrimage centre and ancient temple dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu.

The temple is also home to shrines for Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti (Amman), making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings from multiple deities.

Known locally as Onattukara's Guruvayoor or Eytha ooru, this temple is renowned for its Kerala-style architecture and vibrant religious atmosphere.

The temple operates with convenient darshan timings, opening early in the morning at 4:45 AM and remaining accessible until 11:30 AM, then reopening in the evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Free darshan is available for all visitors, allowing devotees to participate in the spiritual routines without any entry fee.

The daily pooja schedule is extensive, beginning with Palliyunathal at 4:45 AM, followed by rituals such as Nada Thurappu, Nirmalyam, Usha Pooja, Pantheeradi Pooja, Kalabha Charthu, and Ucha Pooja (Maha Pooja) before the morning closure.

Evening rituals include Nada Thurappu, Deeparadhana, and Athazha Pooja, culminating in the night closure at 8:00 PM. Special poojas like Pushpanjali, Ashtothara Archana, Ney Vilakku, and Paalpayasam are available for devotees, with offerings conducted in Sanskrit and Malayalam.

Evoor Major Sri Krishnaswamy Temple is celebrated for its festive calendar, with major events such as Makara Utsavam in January, Evoor Vishu Darshanam in April, Ashtami Rohini in August/September, and the monthly Bhagavatha Saptaham.

The annual brahmotsavam and festival season are considered the best times to visit, especially during the winter months from November to February, and during morning and evening aarti times.

Reconstructed by Travancore King Sri Moolam Thirunal, the temple stands as a living heritage site managed by a local trust.
