About

Damodar Kund Temple, also known locally as Shri Radha Damodar Temple or Damodarraiji Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre nestled at the foothills of the Girnar Hills in Junagadh, Gujarat.

Situated near the Girnar Taleti area, this ancient temple is renowned for its tranquil riverbank location and its significance as a spiritual destination for devotees of Lord Krishna.

The temple’s Nagara (North Indian) architectural style adds to its historic charm, and it holds the distinction of being recognized as a state heritage site.

The main sanctum is dedicated to Lord Krishna, with the presence of other deities including Goddess Radha, Balarama Ji, Revati Devi, Pradyumna Ji, Lakshmi Narayan Ji, and Goddess Vagheshwari.

The temple complex is also closely associated with Damodar Kund, a sacred water tank that attracts pilgrims for spiritual rituals and ceremonies. Damodar Kund Temple is open for darshan from 6:30 AM to 12:30 PM and again from 4:30 PM to 7:15 PM.

Entry for darshan is free, making it accessible to all devotees. The temple conducts daily poojas, with the Morning Aarti at 6:00 AM and the Evening Aarti between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM. Special rituals such as Shraddha, Tarpan Vidhi, and Asthi Visarjana are also performed here.

Poojas are conducted in Gujarati, Sanskrit, and Hindi, catering to a diverse group of visitors. The best time to visit Damodar Kund Temple is during the winter months from November to February, during festival seasons, or in the early morning and evening aarti hours.

Major festivals celebrated at the temple include Maha Shivratri, Janmashtami, Radhastami, Kartik Purnima/Damodar Maas, Holi/Dhulandi, and the Bhadradi Amavasya Fair, drawing large gatherings of devotees.

Visitors are requested to adhere to a traditional dress code: men should wear kurta-pajama, dhoti, or formal trousers with a clean shirt, while women are encouraged to wear saree, salwar kameez, or modest chudidar. Shorts, sleeveless tops, and ripped clothing are discouraged.

Reaching the temple is convenient: arrive in Junagadh via Junagadh Junction railway station (4.5 km away) or by air through Keshod Airport (40 km) or Rajkot International Airport (100 km).

Local transport options like auto-rickshaws, taxis, and buses are available to Girnar Taleti, with the temple located near the start of the Girnar climbing path. Parking is available nearby, though it can be crowded during peak times.

Accommodation options range from budget dharamshalas and yatrik bhavans near Bhavnath Taleti to mid-range and luxury hotels within a 1–5 km radius. The temple also offers traditional sweets, mishri, and dry-fruit prasad, with community annadanam and bhandaras organized during major festivals.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the sanctum and prayer halls, but casual photos are allowed in the outer courtyard and kund area unless otherwise indicated. For more information, visitors can refer to the official website or contact the temple directly.

Nearby attractions include Girnar Hill and its temples, Girnar Ropeway, Ashokan Rock Edicts, Uparkot Fort, Mahabat Maqbara Palace, and Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden, making Damodar Kund Temple a significant spiritual and cultural destination in Junagadh.
