About

Bhavnath Mahadev Temple, also known locally as Bhavnath Mahadev Mandir or Bhavnath Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Nestled at the foothills of the majestic Mount Girnar in the Bhavnath / Girnar Taleti area of Junagadh, Gujarat, this ancient hill temple draws devotees and spiritual seekers from across India.

The temple is renowned for its Nagara (North Indian) architectural style and serves as a living heritage site managed by a local trust.

The main sanctum enshrines Lord Shiva, while the temple complex also houses shrines for other deities, including Goddess Amba Mata, Lord Dattatreya, Lord Ganesha, Hanuman, Kalika, and Ramchandra.

Daily rituals and poojas are conducted in Gujarati, Sanskrit, and Hindi, allowing devotees to participate in their preferred language. The temple offers free darshan for all visitors, making it accessible to everyone seeking blessings. Bhavnath Mahadev Temple is open from 06:30 AM to 08:30 PM.

Devotees can attend the Morning Aarti at 04:45 AM, Afternoon Aarti at 11:00 AM, and Evening Aarti at 07:00 PM. Special poojas such as Jal Abhishek, Rudrabhishek Puja, and Laghu Rudrabhishek are available, with specific charges for the latter two.

The best time to visit is during winter (November to February), festival seasons, the annual brahmotsavam, or during the serene early morning and vibrant evening aarti hours.

The temple comes alive during major festivals such as Maha Shivaratri (Bhavnath Mela) in February–March and Girnar Lili Parikrama around Kartik Purnima (October–November).

During these times, devotees can partake in free food services (bhandaras and annadanam), while daily prasad like sugar crystals, dry fruits, or vibhuti is distributed after aartis. Reaching Bhavnath Mahadev Temple is convenient.

Pilgrims can arrive in Junagadh by train or road from major Gujarat cities like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, or Vadodara. From Junagadh city center or railway station, head northeast toward Girnar Taleti.

Local auto-rickshaws or taxis can be hired directly to Bhavnath Taleti, where the temple stands beside Mrugi Kund. The nearest railway station is Junagadh Junction, just 7 km away, with Jetalsar Junction at 36 km.

For air travelers, Keshod Airport is 40 km away, while Porbandar and Rajkot International Airports are within 110 km.

Visitors will find a range of accommodation options nearby, from budget pilgrim rest-houses like Bhagirath Wadi and Yatrik Bhavans to hotels such as Hotel Kasbah Bhavnath (450 m), Hotel Bhagyoday Palace, and upscale stays like Bellevue Sarovar Premiere and The Fern Leo Resort.

Parking is available near the foothills, though it can be crowded during festivals. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the sanctum and inner temple areas, and mobile phones with active cameras are restricted near the main deity.

Nearby attractions include Girnar Taleti & Ropeway, Damodar Kund, Jatashankar Mahadev Temple, Uparkot Fort, Mahabat Maqbara, and Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden, making Bhavnath Mahadev Temple a spiritual and cultural highlight of Junagadh. Visitors are requested to adhere to the traditional dress code for men and women while inside the temple premises.
