About

Chandrika Devi Temple, also known locally as Maa Chandrika Devi Mandir, Mahi Sagar Teerth, or BKT Temple, is a revered Hindu pilgrimage centre situated on the banks of a river in Kathwara, near Bakshi Ka Talab, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

This ancient temple is dedicated to Goddess Shakti (Amman) and also houses shrines for Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman, Lord Kartikeya, Navagraha, and Kala Bhairav, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings from multiple deities.

The temple is built in the traditional Nagara (North Indian) architectural style and is well-known for its tranquil riverbank setting, which provides a serene atmosphere for worship and meditation.

Devotees can participate in free darshan during the temple’s open hours, which are from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

The best times to visit are early mornings, during the morning hours, or at evening aarti, especially in the winter months from November to February and during the vibrant festival season.

Chandrika Devi Temple offers several poojas and rituals, including daily aartis at 6:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 7:00 PM. Special ceremonies such as Hawan/Yagya and Mundan are also performed. Poojas are conducted in Hindi and Sanskrit, catering to a wide range of devotees.

Major festivals celebrated here include Navratri (Chaitra and Sharad), Amavasya Mela on every new moon, and Diwali, drawing large crowds of pilgrims and visitors. For those planning a visit, the temple is easily accessible from Lucknow city centre.

Follow Sitapur Road (NH-24) north to Bakshi Ka Talab, then head towards Kathwara village, following signage near Maa Chandrika Devi Hospital. The temple provides ample parking space and is accessible by auto-rickshaws, city buses, and app-based cabs.

The nearest railway stations are Lucknow Charbagh (25 km), Bakshi Ka Talab, and Daliganj (20 km), while Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (Amausi) is 35 km away.

Basic guest houses, dharamshalas, and ashrams are available near the temple, with mid-range hotels in Lucknow’s Sitapur Road and Aliganj areas.

Visitors can enjoy prasadam (flowers and sweets) and community food offerings, especially during festivals, with food stalls located around the temple complex. Photography is generally permitted within the premises, though restrictions may apply inside the main sanctum.
