About

Chandra Nagar Shiva Temple, also known locally as God Shiva Temple and Shiva Mandir Chandra Nagar, is a prominent village temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the Chandra Nagar area of Alambagh, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

This modern temple serves as a spiritual center for devotees in the region, offering a serene environment for worship and darshan throughout the day and night, as it remains open 24 hours.

The temple is especially vibrant during the early morning hours between 5 and 8 AM and during the evening aarti, making these the best times for peaceful darshan.

The monsoon season (June to September) and festival periods also see a surge in devotees, with the temple beautifully adorned and filled with devotional fervor.

Major festivals celebrated here include Mahashivratri (February-March), Shravan Maas or Sawan Somwar (July-August), Navratri (March-April, September-October), and Karthik Purnima (October-November), each marked by special rituals and community gatherings.

Chandra Nagar Shiva Temple offers free darshan to all visitors. Daily poojas include the Abhishekam performed in the morning, Rudrabhishekam available on request or every Monday, and Archana & Aarti conducted both in the morning and evening.

These rituals are performed in Sanskrit and Hindi, allowing devotees to participate and connect spiritually in familiar languages.

Devotees are encouraged to follow the temple’s dress code: men should wear full-length pants or trousers with shirts or T-shirts, avoiding shorts or sleeveless vests, while women are advised to wear salwar kameez, sarees, or long skirts/dresses that cover the knees and shoulders.

Photography is generally allowed within the temple premises, but visitors should seek permission from the temple staff before taking photos of the deity. Phone cameras are permitted, while professional cameras may require special approval.

Reaching the temple is convenient from the city center of Lucknow. From Hazratganj or Charbagh, head south towards Alambagh and proceed to Chandra Nagar locality. The temple is situated at 23542f, Chandra Nagar, Alambagh, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, 226005.

The nearest railway stations are Lucknow Charbagh and Aishbagh, while Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is the closest airport for outstation visitors. On-street parking is available, though it can be limited during peak hours and festivals.

For those seeking accommodation, several hotels and guesthouses are available in Alambagh and nearby areas. Devotees can also partake in prasadam offerings, which include sweets, mishri, coconut, fruits, and panchamrit. During festivals, the temple organizes bhandara or community meals, fostering a sense of togetherness among visitors.
