About

Aliganj Hanuman Temple, also known locally as Purana Hanuman Mandir and Naya Hanuman Mandir, is a revered pilgrimage centre situated in the Aliganj area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

This ancient temple, built during the British colonial era by Begum Rabiya, wife of Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah, stands as a living heritage temple and is dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

The temple’s architecture follows the Nagara (North Indian) style, making it a significant spiritual and cultural landmark in Lucknow. Devotees visiting the Aliganj Hanuman Temple can experience darshan at any time, as the temple remains open 24 hours. Free darshan is available for all visitors.

The best time to visit is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), in the morning (8 AM–12 PM), or during the vibrant festival season. The temple is especially renowned for its grand celebrations of Bada Mangal, observed every Tuesday in the Jyeshtha month (May–June), and Hanuman Jayanti.

During Bada Mangal, large-scale bhandaras (free food distribution) are organized, offering prasadam such as chola-chawal, halwa-puri, kachori-aloo, jalebi-khasta, kadhi-chawal, and sharbat to devotees. Poojas and rituals at the temple are conducted in Hindi and Sanskrit.

Daily worship includes the Morning Aarti at 9:00 AM and Night Aarti at 9:00 PM. On Tuesdays, special rituals are performed, including the Special Aarti at 6:00 AM and Bal Bhog at 8:00 AM, drawing large gatherings of devotees.

Visitors are expected to adhere to a traditional and formal dress code for both men and women. Photography is not permitted inside the sanctum sanctorum, ensuring the sanctity of the temple is maintained. Reaching Aliganj Hanuman Temple is convenient.

From Lucknow Junction/Charbagh Railway Station, located about 7 km away, one can take a taxi or auto via Hazratganj-Parivartan Chowk-Khadra-Aliganj Main Road. The temple is also accessible by metro: take the Red Line to Charbagh, then a city bus or auto to Aliganj (Dandiya Bazaar or ITI Chauraha).

From Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (18 km away), take the metro to Charbagh and follow the same route. Street parking and designated market parking spaces are available near Dandaiya Market and ITI Chauraha.

Accommodation options range from budget and mid-range hotels in Aliganj and Mahanagar (1–3 km away) to high-end hotels in Gomti Nagar (5–7 km).

Nearby attractions include Hanuman Setu Mandir, Rumi Darwaza, Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, and Kukrail Forest Picnic Spot, making Aliganj Hanuman Temple an ideal destination for spiritual seekers and tourists alike.
