Bilpank Virupaksha Temple

Situated in the village of Bilpank in Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh, this temple stands as a significant pilgrimage centre for devotees seeking spiritual solace and blessings from Lord Shiva and other deities enshrined here.

The temple’s origins trace back to the Paramara-Chalukya period (10th–11th century CE), with major reconstruction attributed to Chaulukya king Raja Siddharaj Jaysingh of Gujarat in the 12th century.

Recognized as a living heritage temple, it continues to attract pilgrims and history enthusiasts alike. Bilpank Virupaksha Temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, allowing ample time for devotees to participate in darshan and poojas.

Free darshan is available for all visitors, ensuring an inclusive spiritual experience. The temple conducts several poojas, including Morning Aarti, Evening Aarti, Rudrabhishekam, and Archana, performed in Sanskrit and Hindi.

The best times to visit are during the morning hours (8 AM–12 PM), evening aarti, the festival season, and the winter months from November to February, when the atmosphere is especially vibrant.

Major festivals celebrated at the temple include Maha Shivaratri (February–March) and Shravan Maas (July–August), drawing large gatherings of devotees.

During Maha Shivaratri, special kheer (rice pudding) prasadam is distributed, and community food (bhandara) is served during major festivals, fostering a sense of unity and devotion.

Visitors are advised to follow the temple’s dress code: men should wear traditional or modest casual attire such as full-length trousers, dhotis, or kurtas, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or modest kurtis.

Photography is permitted for personal use in exterior and courtyard areas, but is restricted inside the inner sanctum; professional shoots require prior permission.

Parking is available in open spaces and makeshift areas near the temple, though surfaces are unpaved and wheelchair access is limited due to historical stone steps and uneven paving.
