Babulnath Temple

Dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva, the temple also enshrines deities such as Ganesha, Hanuman, and Goddess Parvati, attracting devotees from across the city and beyond.

This state heritage site, originally founded by Raja Bhimdev in the 12th century and later reconstructed by Narayan Devji Patil, local merchants, and Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad of Baroda, is a significant spiritual landmark in Mumbai City district.

The temple is open for darshan from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Mondays and from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM on other days, with early morning rituals commencing as early as 5:00 or 5:30 AM.

Visitors are advised to follow the temple’s dress code: men should wear traditional or modest conservative attire, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or kurtis with covered legs and shoulders.

Photography, video recording, and mobile phone usage are strictly prohibited near the main Shivling, though casual photography may be allowed in the outer courtyards.

To reach Babulnath Temple, pilgrims can arrive at Charni Road Railway Station (1.5 km away), Grant Road Station (1.8 km), or Mumbai Central (2.8 km). From Charni Road, the temple is a short walk or taxi ride uphill, with an elevator available for those unable to climb stairs.

The nearest airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, about 19.5 km away. While there is no dedicated parking, public transit and taxis are recommended due to scarce street parking.
