About

Arulmigu Thirukurungudi Nambi Temple, also known by local names such as Vaishnava Nambi Temple, Dakshina Vaikuntam, Kuranga Kshetram, and Vaishnava Vamanam, is a renowned pilgrimage centre situated in Thirukurungudi village, Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu.

Revered as one of the Divya Desams, this ancient temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu and features a rich heritage dating back to the Vijayanagara period, with significant contributions from the Vijayanagara Empire and various other rulers over time.

The temple stands as a living heritage site, drawing devotees and visitors seeking spiritual solace and architectural splendor.

The temple complex is celebrated for its classic Dravidian architecture, with intricately carved gopurams and expansive prakarams.

Devotees can have darshan of Lord Vishnu in multiple forms, including Ninra Nambi, Irundha Nambi, Kidandha Nambi, Thiruparkadal Nambi, and Thirumalai Nambi.

The goddess Lakshmi is also worshipped here as Thirukurungudivalli Nachiar.

The temple conducts poojas in Tamil and Sanskrit, maintaining the traditional rituals that have been followed for centuries.

Darshan at Arulmigu Thirukurungudi Nambi Temple is available through free, special, and VIP entry types, catering to the needs of all pilgrims.

The temple is open daily from 6:30 AM to 12:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The best time to visit is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), evening aarti, in winter (November to February), and during the festival season, when the temple atmosphere is especially vibrant.

Visitors are advised to adhere to the temple’s dress code: men should wear dhotis or veshti with shirts or trousers, with traditional attire preferred, while women are expected to wear sarees, churidars, or salwar kameez, ensuring modest clothing that covers shoulders and legs.

Reaching the temple is convenient from nearby towns.

From Tirunelveli (about 40–45 km), take NH44 towards Nagercoil and turn off towards Eruvadi/Thirukurungudi; the drive takes about 45–60 minutes.

From Valliyoor (15–20 km), taxis and local buses are available. The nearest railway stations are Valliyoor (15 km), Tirunelveli Junction (45 km), and Nanguneri.

For air travel, Tuticorin Airport is 80 km away, and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is 110 km from the temple.
