About

Arulmigu Rajagopalaswami Temple, located in Mannargudi, Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu, is a renowned ancient temple and pilgrimage centre revered for its Dravidian architecture and deep spiritual significance.

The temple, also known by local names such as Dakshina Dwaraka, Champakaranya Kshetram, Vanduvaraapathi, Vasudevapuri, and Sri Vidhya Rajagopalaswamy Temple, stands near the Haridra Nadhi Temple Tank, offering devotees a serene and sacred atmosphere.

Dedicated primarily to Lord Krishna, the temple also enshrines Goddess Lakshmi, Sri Sengamala Thayar, and various forms of Vishnu and Lakshmi.

Its heritage traces back to the Chola period, with significant contributions from the Chola dynasty, notably Kulothunga Chola I, and subsequent maintenance by the Thanjavur Nayak kings.

Recognized as a state heritage and living heritage temple, it continues to attract pilgrims and visitors throughout the year. The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, allowing ample time for devotees to participate in darshan and rituals.

Free darshan is available, and poojas are conducted in both Sanskrit and Tamil, catering to a diverse group of worshippers.

The best times to visit include early mornings between 5–8 AM, during evening aarti, in the winter months (November to February), and during the festival season, especially the annual brahmotsavam.

Major festivals celebrated at Arulmigu Rajagopalaswami Temple include Panguni Utsavam (March-April), Brahmotsavam (December-January), and the Theppotsavam (Float Festival), drawing large gatherings of devotees.

Visitors are requested to adhere to the temple’s dress code: men should wear a dhoti with a shirt or kurta, or formal pants and shirt, avoiding shorts or casual attire; women are encouraged to wear sarees, churidars with dupatta, or long skirts with appropriate upper garments.

Reaching the temple is convenient. From Tiruchirappalli International Airport (97 km away), one can take a taxi or bus to Mannargudi. Mannargudi Railway Station is just 3–4 km from the temple, accessible by auto-rickshaw or on foot.

Frequent buses connect Mannargudi with Tiruvarur (29 km) and Thanjavur (39 km), and the temple is about 700 meters from the Mannargudi Bus Stand. Accommodation options include temple guest houses managed by HR&CE and several budget and mid-range hotels near the bus stand and JP Street.

More choices are available in Thanjavur and Kumbakonam.
