About

Thodupuzha Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, also known locally as Thodupuzha Sree Krishnaswamy Kshethram (തൊടുപുഴ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമിക്ഷേത്രം), is a revered pilgrimage centre located in the heart of Thodupuzha town, Idukki district, Kerala.

Set gracefully on the banks of a river and easily accessible from Temple Road, this ancient temple is a prominent spiritual destination for devotees seeking darshan of Lord Krishna, the temple’s primary deity.

The sanctum also houses shrines for Shiva, Ganapathi, Ayyappan, Bhagavathy, and Nāga, reflecting the inclusive traditions of Kerala temple worship. The temple is renowned for its Kerala-style architecture, exuding a serene village temple ambiance.

It operates daily from 3:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with intermittent closures for poojas and purification rites.

The best time to visit is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), late mornings, or the evening aarti, especially in the winter months from November to February and throughout the vibrant festival season.

Devotees can participate in a range of poojas, including Usha Pooja in the morning, Deeparadhana in the evening, and special offerings like Pushpanjali (₹10) and Special Archana (₹100). Rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Malayalam, preserving the temple’s traditional heritage.

The temple also celebrates its Annual Ulsavam festival in March–April (Malayalam month of Meenam), culminating in the Aaraat Procession on the seventh day, drawing pilgrims from across the region.

For darshan, entry is free, and visitors are requested to observe the temple’s dress code: men should wear traditional dhoti (mundu) without stitched upper garments inside the inner sanctum, while women are encouraged to wear saree or set-mundu, with modest salwar kameez or churidar permitted in outer areas.

Reaching the temple is convenient—arrive at Thodupuzha town via SH 8 or SH 33, proceed to the KSRTC Bus Station or main town center, and then take a short walk or auto-rickshaw ride (less than 1 km) to the temple.

The nearest railway stations are Vaikom Road (30 km), Kottayam, and Ernakulam Junction/Town (both 60 km away). Cochin International Airport is just 54 km from Thodupuzha. Parking is available near the temple, with wheelchair-accessible entrances.

Photography and videography are strictly prohibited within the premises, and mobile phones must be kept silent. For those wishing to stay nearby, accommodation options include Aman Residency, Sree Krishna Tourist Home, Hotel Ceasar Palace, Kgees Noah Ark, and Hotel Moonlit Regency.

The temple is also known for its traditional prasadam, such as Paal Payasam, Aru Naazhi Paayasam, and Appam/Aravana, with free annadanam provided through the Chothioottu feast.

Pilgrims can also explore nearby attractions like Uravappara View Point & Temple, Malankara Dam, and scenic waterfalls such as Aruvikuthu, Thommankuthu, and Anayadikuthu, as well as the Vagamon Hill Station. For more information, devotees may contact the temple at +914862222488.
