Thirunavaya Navamukunda Temple

Renowned as one of the ancient Divya Desams, this temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, with sanctums also for Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganapathi, Lord Ayyappa Swami, Brahma, and Shiva.

The temple’s Kerala-style architecture and riverbank setting make it a significant spiritual destination for devotees and seekers of peace.

The temple is open for darshan with free entry, and devotees can visit from Monday to Saturday between 5:00 AM and 11:00 AM, on Sundays until 11:30 AM, and every evening from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

The best time to visit Thirunavaya Navamukunda Temple is during the morning hours, especially between 8 AM and 12 PM, in the winter months from November to February, or during the festival season for a more vibrant experience.

A unique aspect of Thirunavaya Navamukunda Temple is its association with Bali Tharpanam or Pitru Tharpanam rituals, performed for ancestors.

These poojas are conducted in the early hours, starting as early as 2:30 AM on special new moon (vavu) days, with morning slots on regular days, and are available at different price points.

Other offerings include Paal Payasam (milk kheer), Ney Vilakku (ghee lamps), Thamara Maala (lotus garland), Kalabhabhishekam, Chathahswatham, and Chuttuvilakku. Rituals are conducted in Sanskrit, Malayalam, and English, catering to a diverse range of devotees.

Major festivals celebrated at the temple include Karkidaka Vavu Bali (July–August), the Annual 10-Day Temple Festival and Vishu (April), Ashtami Rohini (August–September), and the historic Mamankam (Mahamaham) Festival, which occurs once every 12 years.

Devotees are required to follow a strict dress code: men must wear a traditional mundu (dhoti) and remove upper garments before entering the inner sanctum, while women should wear traditional attire such as sari, set-mundu, or a conservative skirt and blouse.

Modern or revealing clothing is not permitted. Reaching Thirunavaya Navamukunda Temple is convenient. The nearest railway station is Thirunavaya (2 km), with Kuttippuram (7 km) and Tirur (11 km) also nearby. Calicut International Airport is about 43 km away.

By road, regular buses and taxis connect the temple to Tirur, Kuttippuram, and Kottakkal. Designated parking is available near the main road, with a short walk to the entrance.
