About

Kadampuzha Devi Temple, also known locally as Sree Kadampuzha Bhagavathy Temple or Kadampuzha Sree Parvathy Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre situated in Melmuri, Kadampuzha, within the Malappuram district of Kerala.

This ancient temple, built in the traditional Kerala architectural style, is dedicated to Goddess Shakti (Amman) and also enshrines deities such as Lord Ganesha, Lord Sastha (Ayyappan), and serpent deities including Nagaraja and Nagayakshi.

The temple is a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking darshan and blessings from the divine mother. Kadampuzha Devi Temple operates daily from 4:30 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM, offering devotees ample opportunity for darshan.

Free darshan is available, and the temple maintains a strict traditional dress code: men are required to wear the Kerala Mundu with a bare upper body, while women should wear saree, salwar kameez, or a modest skirt and blouse.

Western or modern non-traditional attire is discouraged within the inner sanctum. The temple is renowned for its diverse poojas, conducted in Sanskrit and Malayalam.

Popular offerings include Muttarukkal, Rakhta Pushpanjali, Deha Pushpanjali, Mala (garland offering), Ney Vilakku (ghee lamp), Ganapathi Homam, Ney Payasam, Appam, Kadina Payasam, Thrimadhuram, Pattu Charthal, Kedavilakku, and Thrikala Pooja.

Each ritual has a specified fee, allowing devotees to participate according to their wishes.

Festivals are an integral part of temple life, with major celebrations such as Thrikarthika (the birthday of Vana Durga) in November–December, Rigveda Laksharchana in January, Navaratri in September–October, Dravya Kalasam, Thiruvonam Mahotsavam, and Maha Shivaratri drawing pilgrims from across Kerala and beyond.

The best times to visit include the winter months, festival seasons, and early mornings, especially on weekdays when the temple is less crowded. Reaching Kadampuzha Devi Temple is convenient via NH 66 (Kozhikode–Thrissur highway).

From Vettichira Junction, a short 2–3 km drive east leads to the temple, with local buses, auto-rickshaws, and cabs available from Vettichira, Kottakkal, and Valanchery. The nearest railway stations are Kuttippuram (16 km), Tirur (17 km), Angadipuram (23 km), and Shoranur Junction (46 km).

Calicut International Airport is 36 km away, while Cochin International Airport is 122 km from the temple. Accommodation options include the Kadampuzha Devaswom Rest House (on-site with basic rooms), nearby budget lodges, and hotels or resorts in Kottakkal, just 7–8 km away.

Ample parking is available, though it can be congested during festivals. The temple provides free noon meals (Annadanam) daily, with prasadam offerings such as Ney Payasam, Appam, Thrimadhuram, and Malar.

Photography is strictly prohibited within the temple premises, and visitors are required to switch off or leave their mobile phones and cameras outside the core zone. For those unable to visit in person, online darshan is available through the official website.
