Nilambur Vettakkorumakan Temple

This ancient riverbank temple, built by the Nilambur Kovilakam (Nilambur Royal Family), stands as a living heritage temple managed by a local trust, reflecting the grandeur of Kerala’s architectural style and royal traditions.

The temple is dedicated primarily to Vettakkorumakan, with additional shrines for Lord Ganapathy, Goddess Bhagavathy, and various Naga deities, making it a spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings from multiple divine forms.

The tranquil setting along Kovilakam Road and proximity to the river enhance the temple’s serene atmosphere, drawing pilgrims and visitors throughout the year. Darshan at Nilambur Vettakkorumakan Temple is free for all devotees.

The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM, allowing ample time for worship and reflection.

The best time to visit is early morning between 5 and 8 AM, during the winter months of November to February, or in the festival season, especially for those wishing to experience the temple’s vibrant spiritual energy.

The temple observes a strict dress code: men are expected to wear the traditional Kerala mundu or veshti, with upper garments typically removed before entering the inner sanctum, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or ethnic skirts and blouses.

Western attire and shorts are discouraged to maintain the sanctity of the temple. Daily rituals include the Morning Pooja from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM and the Evening Deeparadhana from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, conducted in Sanskrit and Malayalam.

The Narikettupattu, a coconut breaking ritual, is also observed. During the annual Nilambur Pattu Utsavam (Nilambur Pattulsavam), held in December–January, devotees can partake in the Sarvani Sadya, a community feast, along with receiving traditional prasadam such as holy ash, kumkum, and nivedyam.

Reaching the temple is convenient: arrive at Nilambur Town via State Highway 28 or 39, then proceed 1.5 km from the KSRTC Bus Stand to the Kovilakam area, with auto-rickshaws and taxis available.

Nilambur Road Railway Station is just 4 km away, and Calicut International Airport is 35 km from the temple. Accommodation options are plentiful within a 0.7–4.5 km radius, including Hotel Park Residency and Tamarind KTDC Easy Hotel.
