Talacauvery Temple

This hill temple is renowned as a riverbank temple and draws devotees and visitors seeking spiritual solace and natural beauty. The temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman), with sanctums for Lord Shiva (Agasthiswara) and Lord Ganesha (Maha Ganapathi) as well.

The site is significant for its association with the origin of the sacred River Cauvery, making it a vital destination for pilgrims. The present structure was built by the Haleri Kings and has undergone modern renovations by the state government in 2007.

Talacauvery Temple is open from 6:00 AM to 8:30 PM, with an afternoon closure from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM (sometimes up to 4:00 PM on certain days).

Early morning darshan between 5–8 AM is considered especially auspicious, and the winter months from November to February, as well as festival seasons, are regarded as the best times to visit. The temple offers free darshan to all devotees.

Daily poojas at Talacauvery Temple include Abhisheka from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM, general darshan from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and Maha Mangala Aarti from 5:45 PM to 6:00 PM. Rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Kannada.

The temple celebrates several important festivals, including Tula Sankramana (Cauvery Sankramana) in mid-October, Puttari in November-December, and Kailpodhu in September.

Visitors are required to adhere to a strict dress code: men must wear traditional or conservative clothing such as full-length trousers and shirts, while women should opt for saree, churidar, or salwar kameez. Shorts, sleeveless attire, jeans, and revealing clothes are not permitted.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum and around the holy tank (Kundike) area.

Access to Talacauvery Temple involves a scenic journey: reach Madikeri by bus or taxi from Bengaluru, Mangaluru, or Mysuru, then travel to Bhagamandala (36 km from Madikeri) and continue 8 km uphill to the temple by cab or local transport.

The nearest railway stations are Kanhangad (72 km), Mysuru Junction (126 km), and Mangaluru Junction (150 km). The closest airports are Kannur International Airport (115 km), Mangaluru International Airport (137 km), and Mysuru Airport (145 km).

Parking is available near the base of the temple hill for a nominal fee, but visitors must climb 40–50 steps to reach the temple, with additional steps leading to the Brahmagiri viewpoint. This may be challenging for the elderly or those with mobility issues.

Prasadam in the form of theertham (holy water) and vibhuti/kumkum is distributed to devotees.
