Sundarnarayan Temple

Dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, the temple also enshrines Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati, Lord Hanuman, and Indra, making it a significant pilgrimage centre for devotees seeking darshan and spiritual solace.

Built during the Maratha period by Gangadhar Yashwant Chandrachud (Gangadhar Pant), a Peshwa sardar, Sundarnarayan Temple stands as a fine example of Nagara (North Indian) architectural style.

Its heritage status as a state-protected monument underlines its historical and cultural importance in Nashik. The temple’s location near the Godavari ghats adds to its serene ambiance, attracting pilgrims and tourists alike.

The temple is open for darshan from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Free darshan is available for all visitors, and poojas are conducted in Sanskrit and Marathi.

Devotees are advised to follow the dress code: men should wear traditional or modest attire covering legs and shoulders, while women are expected to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or other ethnic wear covering knees and shoulders. Shorts, skirts, sleeveless, or revealing clothes are discouraged.

Sundarnarayan Temple is especially vibrant during festivals such as Vaikuntha Ekadashi (December–January), the Spring Equinox Sun Ray Phenomenon (March 20–21), Ram Navami (March–April), Janmashtami (August–September), and Diwali & Vaikuntha Chaturdashi (October–November).

During these times, traditional prasadam like sugar-candy, dry fruits, or fruit is distributed after aartis, and large-scale annadanam may be organized. Reaching the temple is convenient: Nashik Road Railway Station is just 10 km away, while Nashik Airport (Ozar) is 22 km distant.

Visitors can also arrive via Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (170 km) or Shirdi Airport (90 km). Local transit options include auto-rickshaws, cabs, and buses, with the temple easily accessible from Nashik city center or Panchavati.
