Sun Temple Sidhpur (Rudra Mahalaya)

Revered for its dedication to Lord Shiva, the temple complex also features shrines to Ekadasa Rudras, planetary deities (Grahas), Dikpalas, and various manifestations of Shiva, making it a unique spiritual destination for devotees seeking darshan and blessings.

The temple, locally referred to as Rudramal, Rudramahalaya, Sri Sthala, and Shristhala, is recognized as an ASI-protected monument and a state heritage site.

Its origins trace back to Mularaja, with completion attributed to Jayasimha Siddharaja of the Chaulukya (Solanki) dynasty, reflecting the region’s historical and architectural legacy.

Although the architecture style is categorized as “Other,” the temple’s imposing ruins and riverbank setting offer a compelling glimpse into Gujarat’s spiritual and cultural past. Pilgrims can visit the Sun Temple Sidhpur daily between 8:45 AM and 7:15 PM.

There is no strict dress code, but modest, respectful casual clothing is recommended for both men and women. Darshan is free for all visitors, and poojas are conducted in Sanskrit, Gujarati, Hindi, English, and Marathi, accommodating a diverse range of devotees.

The temple is especially vibrant during festivals such as Shravan Maas (July–August), Sarvapitra Amavasya / Pitru Paksha (September–October), Akshaya Tritiya (April), and Dipavali Amavasya (November).

These occasions draw pilgrims from across the region, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere of the site. The best time to visit is during winter months (November to February) or early mornings between 5 and 8 AM, when the riverbank setting is most serene.

Reaching the temple is convenient: the nearest airport is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, about 115 km away. From the airport, visitors can hire a taxi or take a GSRTC bus to Siddhpur. By road, Siddhpur is accessible via NH 41 through Mehsana and Unjha.

Siddhpur Railway Station is just 2 km from the temple, with local auto-rickshaws and walking routes available. Informal street parking is available nearby, though the site is not wheelchair accessible due to uneven terrain.

Photography is restricted within protected zones, but exterior shots from outside barricades are generally permitted. Traditional dry prasad and kumkum can be obtained from nearby active shrines, and satvik meals are available at local guest houses and mutts.
