Sri Ranganathaswami Temple Nellore

This pilgrimage centre, protected as an ASI monument, stands as a testament to Dravidian architecture and the rich heritage of the Chola period.

The temple’s foundation was laid by the Pallava dynasty, later expanded by Chola king Raja Mahendra Varma, and further developed under the Vijayanagara Empire. The presiding deity here is Lord Vishnu, worshipped as Sri Ranganathaswamy.

The sanctum also houses other deities including Goddess Sridevi, Goddess Bhudevi, Lord Brahma, Goddess Lakshmi (Ranganayaki Devi), Lord Venkateswara, and Lord Hanuman, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees.

The temple is renowned for its daily rituals and poojas, which are conducted in Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, and English, catering to a diverse group of pilgrims.

Devotees can participate in various poojas such as Viswaroopa Seva (Thirupalliezuchi & Suprabhata Seva) at 8:00 AM, Abhigamana Aradhana (Morning Aradhana) at 8:30 AM, and Saayam Aradhana (Evening Aradhana) at 7:00 PM.

Special Darshan or Antaralaya Darshan is available for a nominal fee of INR 50, while free darshan is also offered. The temple timings are from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM every day, allowing ample opportunity for darshan and worship.

The best time to visit is during winter (November to February), the annual brahmotsavam, or early mornings between 5–8 AM.

Dress code is strictly traditional: men are required to wear a dhoti or pyjamas with an upper cloth or formal shirt and trousers, while women should wear a saree, half-saree with blouse, or a traditional churidar/salwar kameez with an upper cloth.

The temple is easily accessible from Nellore Bus Stand or City Center by heading towards the Penna River and taking the route toward Ranganaykula Peta/Isukadonka Road. Local cycle-rickshaws or auto-rickshaws are available from the main roads to the temple entrance.

Nellore Railway Station is just 5 km away, and Tirupati Airport is the nearest airport at 120 km. Designated parking and accessibility support for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals are provided near the entrance.

Photography is not permitted inside the inner temple premises or sanctum sanctorum, and all electronic devices must be deposited at the cloakroom. Pilgrims can enjoy prasadam such as Pulihora, Laddu, and Panakam, and partake in Annadanam (free meals) served in the afternoon.
