About

Sri Pydithalli Ammavari Temple is a revered pilgrimage centre and ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Shakti, also known locally as Pydimamba, Pydithallamma, Ammavaru, and Uttaraandhra Velukolpu.

Located at Three Lamps Junction in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, this living heritage temple holds deep spiritual significance for devotees across the region.

The temple’s roots trace back to the modern period, having been built by the Pusapati dynasty after the Bobbili Battle in 1757, and it continues to serve as a vibrant focal point for worship and community life. The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 1:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

The best time to visit is in the early morning between 5 and 8 AM or during the vibrant festival season. The temple observes a traditional dress code: men are required to wear dhotis or trousers, while women should opt for modest attire such as sarees or long skirts.

Devotees can participate in various poojas, including Abhishekam and Kumkuma Puja, with rituals conducted in Telugu. Special Darshan options are available, including Free Darshan, Special Darshan, VIP Darshan, and Seeghra Darshan, each with a nominal fee for the latter three.

The temple is especially renowned for its grand Sirimanu Utsavam and Tholellu festivals, celebrated in September and October, along with unique rituals like Sirimanu Festival Rituals and mass feeding (annadanam) during major festivals. Prasadam is distributed to devotees after darshan.

Reaching Sri Pydithalli Ammavari Temple is convenient. Vizianagaram Junction (VZM) railway station is just 2 km away, with frequent trains connecting to major cities.

From the station, the Vanagudi temple is opposite, and the main temple is a short 5–10 minute auto-rickshaw ride to Three Lamps Junction. Visakhapatnam Airport (VTZ) is about 60 km away, and taxis or pre-paid cabs are readily available.

The city is well-connected by road via NH-16, with frequent APSRTC buses from Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam.

For accommodation, numerous budget and mid-range hotels such as Hotel VR Grand, Hotel SVN Lake Palace, Vytla Residency, and Super Hotel O by OYO Vizianagaram are available near the railway station and Three Lamps area.

Parking is limited on-site, but street parking is commonly used, especially during festival times. Photography is generally permitted in the temple premises, though restrictions may apply inside the sanctum or during rituals.

Nearby attractions include Ramanarayanam, Vizianagaram Fort, Thatipudi Reservoir, Ramatheertham Temple, and Simhachalam Temple, making this temple an essential stop for pilgrims and tourists exploring the spiritual and cultural heritage of Vizianagaram.
