About

Sri Kurmam Kurmanatha Temple, also known locally as Sri Kurmam Temple, Kurmanatha Swamy Temple, or Srikurmam Temple, is a revered ancient temple and pilgrimage centre located on the banks of a river in Gara Mandal, Srikurmam, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh.

Dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, this temple is renowned for its unique spiritual ambiance and draws devotees from across the region.

The temple also houses shrines for other deities including Kurmanayaki (Lakshmi), Paatala Siddeshwara, Karpureshwara, Koteshwara, Haatakeshwara, Sundareshwara, Andal, Lord Balaji, Govindaraja Swamy with Sridevi and Bhudevi, as well as Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana.

The temple’s architecture reflects a mixed and renovated style, with significant contributions from Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty and the perambulatory added by Anangabhima Deva III.

Although the exact historical period is unknown or disputed, the temple’s ancient roots and ongoing renovations highlight its enduring significance as a spiritual destination. Sri Kurmam Kurmanatha Temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The best time to visit is early morning between 5:00 and 8:00 AM, during the morning hours up to noon, or during the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Dolotsavam (Dola Pournami) in March, Chaitra Shuddha Ekadashi after Sri Rama Navami, and Dhanurmasam in December-January.

Daily rituals include the Abhishekam pooja performed from 4:30 AM to 6:00 AM, with services conducted in Telugu, English, Tamil, and Hindi. For darshan, devotees can choose between free darshan, special darshan for ₹10, or seeghra darshan for ₹20.

Traditional and modest attire is strongly advised for both men and women. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, and visitors are requested to switch off mobile phones before darshan. Daily prasadam is offered, with basic prasadam usually provided to devotees.

Reaching the temple is convenient, with APSRTC buses, autos, and taxis available from Srikakulam town, which is about 15 km away. The nearest railway station is Srikakulam Road (Amadalavalasa), 25 km from the temple, and Visakhapatnam International Airport is approximately 115 km away.
