Sitabani Temple

This ancient hill temple is dedicated to Goddess Shakti (Amman) and also houses sanctums for Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Siteshwar Mahadev, and Sage Valmiki. The temple is recognized as an ASI-protected monument, reflecting its cultural and spiritual significance in the region.

Set amidst the lush Mailani and Kota Ranges, close to villages Maujli and Amgarhi, Sitabani Temple offers devotees a tranquil spiritual retreat surrounded by natural beauty. The temple is accessible daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Entry to the forest is regulated, with specific entry windows: in summer, from 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM; in winter, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM.

Early morning visits, especially between 5–8 AM, and trips during the winter months (November to February) or festival seasons are considered the best times to experience the temple’s peaceful ambiance. Devotees can participate in daily worship and aarti, conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi.

Darshan at Sitabani Temple is free for all visitors. The temple observes major Hindu festivals such as Ram Navami (March-April) and Maha Shivaratri (February-March), during which the spiritual fervor is especially vibrant.

Simple prasad, including mishri, fruits, and dry sweets, is distributed by the priest, while community meals are occasionally organized during major festivals. To reach Sitabani Temple, pilgrims first arrive at Ramnagar, which is well-connected by road and rail.

From Ramnagar Railway Station (24 km away) or Kathgodam Railway Station (81 km away), visitors can hire a cab or jeep to the Sitabani Forest Gate near Village Amgarhi/Patkote road. After obtaining a forest entry permit, the journey continues for 20–24 km along an unpaved forest trail.

The final approach requires a 5-minute walk through rustic terrain, which is not wheelchair accessible. Parking is available in designated forest clearings for safari vehicles.
