Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple

Situated near Chauli Ki Jali in the Darima, Mohan Bazar, and South Gola Range area of Mukteshwar, Nainital district, Uttarakhand, this ancient pilgrimage centre is set amidst the scenic Kumaon hills, offering a tranquil spiritual retreat for devotees and visitors alike.

The temple is notable for its worship of Lord Shiva as the presiding deity, with shrines also dedicated to Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman, and Nandi.

Men should wear full-length clothing such as trousers or jeans, while women are advised to wear salwar kameez, full-length skirts, or jeans with covered tops. Shorts, short skirts, and sleeveless attire are discouraged, especially inside the sanctum.

To reach Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple, travelers can arrive at Kathgodam (62 km) or Haldwani (65 km) railway stations, or Pantnagar Airport (90 km) and Jolly Grant Airport (295 km).

From the plains or Delhi, the route involves a drive uphill via Bhimtal and Bhowali, continuing through Ramgarh and Bhatelia, and then following Bhatelia-Mukteshwar Road to the temple complex. Parking is extremely limited near the base, and vehicles may be halted 1–2 km away.

The temple is accessible on foot via a short paved trail, but visitors should be prepared to climb 90–200 steep stone steps; it is not wheelchair accessible.

Photography and video recording are strictly prohibited near the main shrines and inner sanctum, but general photography is allowed in the outer complex and at viewpoints.

Traditional prasad such as sweets, mishri, coconuts, and fruit is distributed, and simple vegetarian snacks are available at local stalls near the base.
