Sisireswara Temple

Set near the historic Bindusagar tank and Barhadanda Road, this temple is a significant destination for devotees of Lord Shiva and seekers of Odisha’s rich Kalinga architectural heritage.

The temple is recognized as a state and living heritage site, reflecting its ongoing spiritual and cultural importance.

The main deity worshipped at Sisireswara Temple is Lord Shiva, and the sanctum is adorned with representations of several other deities, including Ganesha, Lakulisa, Nataraja, Ardhanariswara, Hari-Hara, Gangadhara, Ekapada, Bhikshatanamurti, Bhairava, and Mahishasura-mardini (Durga).

The temple’s rituals and poojas, such as Alarati and Jalabhishek, are conducted in Sanskrit and Odia, offering an authentic devotional experience for visitors. Free darshan is available for all devotees. Sisireswara Temple is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The best time to visit is during the winter months from November to February, especially in the early morning hours between 5–8 AM or during the morning from 8 AM to 12 PM.

Devotees are advised to follow the temple’s dress code: men should wear traditional or modest casual attire like long trousers, dhoti, or kurta-pyjama, while women are expected to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or conservative long kurtas with leggings. Revealing clothes are discouraged.

The temple celebrates major festivals such as Maha Shivaratri (February–March), Kartika Purnima/Kartik Masa (October–November), and Durga Puja/Navratri (September–October).

During these occasions, occasional community food distribution and devotional offerings like sugar, fruits, or dry Mahaprasad may be shared among devotees.

Reaching Sisireswara Temple is convenient: visitors can arrive in Bhubaneswar by air, train, or bus, then proceed to Old Town via local transport. The temple is near Tinimundia Chowk and Baitala Temple, with Bhubaneswar Railway Station just 4 km away and Biju Patnaik International Airport 5 km away.

Street-side parking is available, though there is no dedicated lot and wheelchair accessibility is limited due to uneven stone pathways.
