Sharana Basaveshwara Temple

This temple stands as a living heritage site, managed by a panchayat or local trust, and is renowned for its spiritual ambiance and community service.

Built by Poojya Sri Adi Doddappa Appa, the second Peethadhipati, in 1822, the temple reflects a mixed and renovated architectural style that blends tradition with modernity. The temple is dedicated to Sharana Basaveshwara, with Marulasidda, the Guru of Sharana Basaveshwara, also venerated here.

Pilgrims and devotees can participate in various poojas such as Suprabhat Seva, Mahamangalarathi, and Archana, conducted in Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, and English. Darshan at the temple is free of charge, making it accessible to all visitors.

The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM and again from 3:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with the best times to visit being during winter (November to February), the festival season, or during the evening aarti. Festivals are a major highlight at Sharana Basaveshwara Temple.

The Sharanabasaveshwar Jatra & Maha Rathotsava (Car Festival) held around Ugadi in March-April draws large crowds, as does the celebration of Shravana Maas (Holy Mondays) in August-September, Sankranti in January, and Dussehra in September-October.

During these times, the temple becomes a hub of spiritual activity, with mass feeding (Annadanam/Dasoha) provided to all visitors, especially on festival days. Reaching the temple is convenient.

From Kalaburagi Railway Station (just 2.5 km away) or the Central Bus Stand, visitors can take a local auto-rickshaw or city taxi to S.B. Temple Road in the Brahampur area.

Those arriving by air can travel from Kalaburagi Airport, located 15 km from the temple, or from Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, about 210 km away. Ample parking is available for cars, two-wheelers, and buses, and the temple is wheelchair accessible.

For accommodation, pilgrims can choose from budget and mid-range hotels such as Kyriad Hotel Gulbarga, Hotel Lumbini's Grand, and Hotel Heritage INN, all within 1–2 km of the temple. Pilgrim lodging (Yatri Nivas) is also available adjacent to the temple.

Nearby attractions include Gulbarga Fort, Khwaja Banda Nawaz Dargah, Buddha Vihar, and Sharana Basaveshwara Lake. Photography is not permitted inside the main sanctum, though casual photography of the outer complex may be allowed with staff approval.
