About

Shahji Temple, also known by its local names such as Shah Ji Mandir, Tede Khambe Mandir, Tera Kamba, Saha Bihari Lal Temple, and Tedha Khamba Mandir, is a renowned ancient temple and pilgrimage centre in Vrindavan, Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh.

Situated in Gotam Nagar near Loi Bazaar, this temple is a living heritage site built during the British colonial era by the merchant brothers Shah Kundan Lal and Shah Phundan Lal from Lucknow. The temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, with Radha and Chhote Radha Raman also worshipped here.

Pilgrims and devotees visiting Shahji Temple can experience a spiritually uplifting atmosphere, especially during the morning and evening aarti sessions.

The temple timings are convenient for darshan, with morning hours from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM or 12:00 PM, and evening hours from 4:30 PM or 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM.

The best time to visit is during the morning (8 AM–12 PM), evening aarti, winter months (November to February), or during the vibrant festival season.

The temple conducts a variety of poojas, including Morning Aarti, Darshan, Bhog, Shayan Aarti (approx. 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM), and Evening Aarti, Darshan, Bhog, Shayan Aarti (approx. 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM). The Shringar Ritual is also performed, and rituals are conducted in both Hindi and English.

Entry for darshan is free, and devotees are encouraged to dress modestly, with both men and women advised to cover shoulders and knees.

Shahji Temple is especially lively during festivals such as Basant Panchami (January/February), Jhulan Yatra (July/August), Janmashtami and Radhashtami (August/September), and Holi (March).

Prasadam, including flowers, Tulsi leaves, and sweets, is distributed regularly, with annadanam available during peak festival times.

Reaching Shahji Temple is straightforward: arrive in Vrindavan via the Yamuna Expressway from Delhi or Agra, exit towards Mathura/Vrindavan, and head to the central part of Vrindavan near Nidhivan. Due to narrow lanes, access to Gotam Nagar is best by e-rickshaw or on foot.

The nearest railway stations are Vrindavan Railway Station (1.5 km) and Mathura Junction (11 km), while Agra Airport (73 km) and Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi (155 km) are the closest airports. Parking is available nearby, but walking or e-rickshaw is recommended.

Accommodation options include mid-range hotels and ashrams within Vrindavan town, with premium hotels located on the outskirts along Raman Reiti/Chatikara Road, about a 10-15 minute commute.

Notable nearby attractions are Nidhivan, Shri Radha Raman Temple, Shri Banke Bihari Mandir, ISKCON Vrindavan, and Prem Mandir. For more information, visitors can refer to the official website or contact the temple directly. Please note that photography is not allowed inside the temple premises.
