About

Sangameswara Temple Kudavelly, also known locally as Kudavelli Sangameshwara Gudi and Sangameshwara Swamy Temple, is a revered ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Situated near the western side of the Alampur temple cluster in Alampur, Jogulamba Gadwal district, Telangana, this temple stands as a significant pilgrimage centre and is recognized as an ASI protected monument.

The temple is beautifully positioned on the riverbank, enhancing its spiritual ambiance and making it a sought-after destination for devotees and history enthusiasts alike.

The temple’s architecture follows the Vesara style, reflecting the craftsmanship of the Badami Chalukyas, with attribution to Pulakesi I or Pulakesi II. Apart from the main deity, Lord Shiva, devotees can also offer prayers to Nandi, Ganesha, Sankhanidhi, and Padmanidhi within the temple premises.

The temple is open daily from 08:00 AM to 06:00 PM, and the best time to visit is during the winter months (November to February), especially in the mornings or during the evening aarti. Darshan at Sangameswara Temple Kudavelly is accessible to all with free entry.

Various poojas are performed here, including General Darshan (free), Kumkuma Archana/Archana (₹50), Abhishekam (₹100), Abhishekam for couples (₹300), and Rudra Homam or Special Pujas (₹500 and ₹516).

Rituals are conducted in Telugu and Sanskrit, allowing devotees to participate in their preferred language.

The temple observes a traditional dress code: men are expected to wear dhoti or kurta-pyjama/trousers, and for rituals like abhishekam, removal of upper-body garments is required; women are advised to wear saree, salwar kameez, or churidar with dupatta, with western or revealing outfits discouraged.

Major festivals celebrated at the temple include Maha Shivaratri (February/March), Karthika Masam (November/December), Dasara/Sharan Navaratri (September/October), and Ugadi (March/April).

On Mondays, pradosham days, and during major festivals, free annadanam is organized, and traditional prasadam like pulihora, sweet pongal, and vibhuti/kumkum is available at nominal prices.

Reaching the temple is convenient: from Hyderabad (about 225 km), take NH 44 southbound to Alampur town; from Kurnool (27–29 km), head north via NH 44 or local roads.

The nearest railway stations are Alampur Road (9 km) and Kurnool City (27 km), while Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, is about 202 km away. Accommodation is available at Haritha Hotel, Alampur (500 meters from the temple), with more options in Kurnool.

Nearby attractions include Shri Jogulamba Ammavari Temple, Navabrahma Temples Complex, and Papanasi Temples. Photography is permitted in outer courtyards and mandapams, though restrictions apply inside the inner sanctum.

Ample open space parking is available, though visitors with severe mobility impairments may encounter some challenges due to stone steps and raised platforms.
