About

Sri Gnana Saraswathi Temple Basar, also known locally as Basara Temple, Gnana Saraswati Devasthanam, Vyasapuri, or Vasara, is a revered ancient temple situated on the scenic banks of the Godavari River in Basar, Nirmal district, Andhra Pradesh.

This temple is a significant pilgrimage centre, attracting devotees who come to seek blessings from Goddess Shakti, the primary deity, along with Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Kali.

The temple's architecture reflects the Chalukya style, as it was built by the Chalukya kings, and it stands as a testament to the region’s rich spiritual heritage. Devotees visiting the Sri Gnana Saraswathi Temple can participate in a variety of poojas and rituals conducted in Sanskrit and Telugu.

The temple opens its doors early, with timings from 4:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 2:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

Early mornings, especially between 5–8 AM, are considered the best time for darshan, and the winter months from November to February, as well as festival seasons, see the highest influx of pilgrims.

A range of poojas is available for devotees, including Mangalya Vaidya/Suprabhatam (3:30–4:00 AM), Abhishekam (4:00–5:00 AM, ₹200), Nijaroopa Darshan (4:30–5:30 AM, ₹200), Alankara (5:00–6:00 AM), and Maha Aarti (6:00–6:30 AM and 12:30–1:00 PM).

Special rituals such as Aksharabhyasam (₹100), Aksharabhyasam (Special, ₹1000), Kumkumarchana (₹50), Pallaki Seva (Fridays, ₹200), and Satyanarayana Swamy Pooja (₹100) are also performed. Free darshan is available, and for those seeking a quicker experience, special darshan is offered for ₹100.

The temple observes major festivals like Vasantha Panchami in February, Maha Shivaratri in February-March, Devi Navaratrulu/Dasara in September-October, and Vyasa Pournima in July. Prasadam is distributed after the morning aarti, and a daily free meal service (annadanam) is organized for devotees.

For those planning a visit, the temple is easily accessible. By train, Basar Railway Station (BSX) is just 2.5 km away, while Nizamabad Railway Station is 35 km distant. Nanded Airport (65 km) and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad (193 km), are the nearest airports.

Road access is convenient from Hyderabad via NH-44 and from Nirmal and Nizamabad through local transport. A large parking area is available near the entrance, and the temple is easily reachable from the railway station.

Accommodation options near the temple include TTD Guest House, Nakshatra Inn, Laxmi Grand Inn, Hrim Akshara Resort, and Devasthanam Cottages. Nearby attractions such as the Godavari River & Bathing Ghat, Vyasa Maharshi Cave, Vasavi Temple, and Laxmi Temple add to the spiritual experience.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the temple premises, with cameras and phones to be deposited at the security counter. For more details, devotees can visit the official website or contact the temple directly. Online darshan is also available for those unable to visit in person.
