Renuka Yellamma Temple Saundatti

This ancient hill temple is a prominent pilgrimage centre, drawing devotees from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and beyond, who come to seek the blessings of Goddess Shakti/Amman. The temple complex also houses shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Mallikarjuna (Shiva), Parashurama, Eknath, and Siddheshwar.

The temple’s architecture is a blend of styles, reflecting its long history and several renovations. The earliest shrines are believed to date back to the Rashtrakuta or late Chalukyan period, with significant construction attributed to Bomappa Nayaka of Raybag in 1514 CE.

The site is recognized as a state heritage monument, and its hilltop location offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Darshan at Renuka Yellamma Temple is available in multiple formats: free darshan, special darshan (₹100), and VIP darshan (₹500).

The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Early morning visits, particularly between 5–8 AM, and the winter months from November to February, are considered the best times to visit.

Devotees are advised to avoid peak pilgrimage seasons for a more peaceful experience. Poojas such as Archana (₹50), Abhishekam (₹300), and Vehicle Pooja (Vahana Puja, ₹500) are performed in Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, and Hindi.

Dress code is strictly enforced: men should wear traditional or formal attire, while women are expected to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or half-sarees. Western and revealing clothing is discouraged.

Major festivals celebrated here include Banada Hunnime (Chakkadi Jatre) during Margasira full moon, Bharatha Hunnime, Navaratri, Deepavali, and Makar Sankranti.

During these times, free mass food (Dasoha/Annadanam) is organized, and prasadam such as saffron turmeric powder, kumkum, camphor, coconuts, and edible offerings are distributed. Reaching the temple is convenient from major hubs like Belagavi, Hubballi, and Dharwad.

Pilgrims can take KSRTC buses or taxis to Saundatti, then local transport uphill to the temple. The nearest railway stations are Dharwad (50 km), Hubballi Junction (55 km), and Belagavi (75 km). Hubballi Airport is 50 km away.

Parking is ample at both the base and hilltop, with some wheelchair accessibility, though staircases may limit unassisted access to the inner sanctum.
