Godachi Veerabhadreshwara Temple

Recognized as the “Dharmasthala of North Karnataka,” this temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Veerabhadreshwara.

The sanctum also houses shrines for Goddess Bhadrakali, Goddess Kalamma, and Lord Hanuman, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees in the region.

The temple’s architecture reflects a mixed and renovated style, with foundations dating back to the Later Chalukya/Sevuna period and subsequent expansions by the Vijayanagara dynasty and the Shinde family of Toragal.

As a living heritage temple managed by a panchayat and local trust, it continues to draw pilgrims throughout the year.

The temple is especially vibrant during major festivals such as the Godachi Jathre (Annual Fair) held in November–December, Maha Shivaratri in February–March, and Bhadrakali Jayanthi.

Devotees can participate in daily poojas conducted in Kannada and Sanskrit, including the Morning Seva with Abhishekam, Archana, and Aarathi from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and the Evening Seva with Pradosha-kalam rituals, Archana, and lighting from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Darshan is available in two types: free darshan and special darshan for a nominal fee. The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with the best time to visit being early morning, during winter months (November to February), or during festival season.

Visitors are required to adhere to a traditional dress code: men should wear full pants, dhotis, or pyjamas with shirts or kurtas, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or long skirts with dupattas.

Photography and mobile phones are strictly prohibited inside or near the main sanctum, though casual photography may be allowed in the outer premises with permission. Reaching Godachi Veerabhadreshwara Temple is convenient via Belagavi city or Ramdurg, with state transport buses and taxis available.
