About

Ramappa Temple Palampet, also known locally as Ramalingeshwara Temple and Rudreshwara Temple, is a renowned ancient temple and pilgrimage centre located in Venkatapur Mandal, Palampet, in the Mulugu district of Andhra Pradesh.

Revered as a living heritage temple, it is dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva, with Lord Vishnu also worshipped here. Recognized as an ASI protected monument and a UNESCO World Heritage site, the temple stands as a testament to the architectural and spiritual legacy of the Kakatiya dynasty.

It was built by Recherla Rudra, a general under Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva. The temple welcomes devotees and visitors daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

For those seeking a serene darshan experience, early mornings between 5–8 AM or during the winter months from November to February are considered the best times to visit. The temple offers free darshan to all visitors.

Traditional dress is recommended: men are advised to wear dhotis, trousers, or shirts, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or other modest attire.

Poojas at Ramappa Temple Palampet are conducted in Telugu and include Abhishekam, Archana, and special pujas held on Mondays and during the auspicious Kartika month.

Major festivals celebrated here include Maha Shivaratri in February-March, Kakatiya Utsavam in October, and Kartika Masam in October-November, drawing pilgrims from across the region. During these festivals, Annadanam (free food) is organized, and daily prasadam is available to devotees.

The temple is easily accessible by road from Hyderabad via NH163, passing through Bhongir, Janagaon, Warangal, and Mulugu before reaching Palampet. From Warangal, visitors can take an RTC bus or shared jeep to Mulugu, then a local auto-rickshaw to the temple.

Public transport options include buses to Hanamkonda or Warangal, followed by onward connections to Mulugu and Palampet.

The nearest railway stations are Kazipet Junction (56 km) and Warangal Railway Station (65 km), while the closest airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, about 230 km away.

For accommodation, pilgrims can stay at the Haritha Hotel (Telangana Tourism) near the temple, Laknavaram Lake Resort (20–30 km away), or choose from several hotels in Warangal and Hanamkonda (60–70 km).

The temple complex offers dedicated parking, including wheelchair-accessible facilities, for a nominal fee. Photography is permitted in the main complex and exterior areas, but is restricted inside the sanctum sanctorum.

Nearby attractions include Ramappa Lake (2 km), Laknavaram Lake (30 km), Pandavula Guhalu (Pandava Caves), Ghanpur Group of Temples (Kota Gullu, 10 km), and Bogatha Waterfall (60 km), making Ramappa Temple Palampet a significant spiritual and cultural destination in Andhra Pradesh.
