About

Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Temple is a revered ancient temple and pilgrimage centre nestled within the Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary in Mulugu district, Telangana.

Also known by local names such as Sammakka Saralamma Temple, Medaram Jatara, Sammakka Sarakka Jatara, and Medaram Vana Devatalu, this temple is deeply significant to devotees of Goddess Shakti/Amman.

The temple also honors Saralamma (Sarakka), Pagididda Raju, and Govinda Raju as other deities, reflecting the rich traditions of the Koya tribal community who are credited with establishing this living heritage temple.

The Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Temple is especially renowned for hosting the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara, a major festival held biennially in February (Magha month) over four days. This event draws millions of pilgrims, making it one of the largest tribal gatherings in India.

During the Jatara, devotees participate in rituals and receive jaggery (Bangaram) as the main prasadam. Massive free Annadanam tents are also set up, offering food to all visitors.

The best time to visit the temple is early morning between 5–8 AM or during the vibrant festival season, when the spiritual atmosphere is at its peak. The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, allowing devotees ample time for darshan.

Entry for darshan is free, and visitors are advised to adhere to the traditional dress code: men and women should wear modest clothing with shoulders and knees covered. Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the core temple and altar areas, ensuring the sanctity of the rituals.

Reaching Medaram is convenient with several transport options. The nearest railway stations are Warangal (95 km) and Kazipet Junction (105 km), while Vijayawada International Airport (230 km) and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad (240 km) are the closest airports.

From Hyderabad, pilgrims can take a TSRTC bus or taxi to Warangal/Hanamkonda, followed by a direct bus or taxi to Medaram via the Mulugu-Pasara-Tadvai route.

Large designated parking zones, including VVIP/VIP lots, are available, and there is basic wheelchair accessibility, though terrain may be uneven during festivals.

Accommodation ranges from basic dorms and rest areas in Medaram (Sammakka Sarakka Nilayam) to more comfortable options like Haritha Grand Hotel & Resorts in Mulugu/Laknavaram, as well as a wide range of hotels in Warangal and Hanamkonda.

Nearby attractions include Laknavaram Lake, Ramappa Temple, Bogatha Waterfall, and the surrounding Eturunagaram Wildlife Sanctuary, offering pilgrims opportunities for exploration beyond the temple visit. For more details, visit the official website or contact the temple administration directly.
