About

Raghunathji Temple Devprayag, also known by names such as Sri Neelamega Perumal Temple, Thirukkandam, Kadi Nagar, and Devprayag Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre situated above the sacred Devprayag Sangam in the foothills of Giddhanchal Parvat, Devprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

This ancient Divya Desam is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, with sanctums also for Goddess Sita, Lord Lakshmana, Lord Narasimha, Annapurna Devi, Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman, Garuda, and Adi Shankaracharya, making it a significant destination for devotees seeking darshan of multiple deities.

The temple stands as a classic example of Nagara (North Indian) architecture and is recognized as both a state heritage and a living heritage temple.

Its location on a hill above the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers adds to its spiritual aura, drawing pilgrims and visitors from across India.

The temple’s historical roots are traditionally attributed to Adi Shankaracharya, with later restorations by Maratha ruler Daulat Rao Scindia and support from the Garhwal and Katyuri dynasties. Raghunathji Temple offers free darshan to all visitors.

The temple timings are as follows: in summer, it is open from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; in winter, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a midday closure from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.

Daily pooja, archana, and aarti are performed in Sanskrit and Hindi, and special Shraddha ceremonies (ancestral rites) are conducted.

The best time to visit is early morning (5–8 AM), during winter (November to February), or during the festival season, while it is advisable to avoid the peak pilgrimage rush.

Major festivals celebrated here include Ram Navami (March–April), Basant Panchami (January–February), Kartik Poornima (November), Hanuman Jayanti (April), Dussehra, and Diwali (October–November).

During festivals, local bhandaras are organized and prasadam such as dry sweets, mishri, fruits, and Charanamrit is distributed. Food is also available at nearby ashrams and eateries.

To reach Raghunathji Temple, pilgrims can arrive via Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (90 km), or by train to Rishikesh (72 km) or Haridwar (93 km). From Rishikesh, a scenic drive of about 2–3 hours via NH-7 leads to Devprayag town, where parking is available along the highway.

The temple is accessed by walking down steep paved pathways, crossing a pedestrian suspension bridge, passing through the local bazaar, and climbing a final stone staircase.

Accommodation options range from budget to premium, including Ramkund Resort, Hotel US Tower, Hotel Raghunath Palace, The Tattva Devprayag, and Hotel Ganga Vista, all within easy reach of the temple.

Nearby attractions include the Sangam, Suspension Bridge, Nakshatra Vedhshala, Dashrathshila Temple, Teen Dhara, Mata Chandrabadni Temple, and Tehri Lake and Dam, making Devprayag a holistic spiritual and travel destination.
