About

Chandrabadni Devi Temple, also known locally as Chandrabadani Devi Temple or Chandrakoot Parvat Temple, is a revered Shakti Peetha located atop the Chandrabadni Mountain in the Jakhnidhar region near Jamnikhal, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

This ancient hill temple is a significant pilgrimage centre dedicated to Goddess Shakti, attracting devotees and spiritual seekers from across the region.

The temple’s serene setting on Chandrakoot Parvat offers breathtaking views, making it a sought-after destination for both religious pilgrims and nature lovers. The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with the best time to visit being early morning between 5:00 and 8:00 AM.

The pleasant weather during winter (November to February), summer (March to May), and the vibrant festival season enhances the spiritual experience.

Devotees can participate in various poojas, including the Morning Aarti at 7:00 AM, Evening Aarti at 7:00 PM, and the Abhishek of Shri Yantra in the early morning hours. Rituals are performed in Sanskrit and Hindi, catering to a wide range of pilgrims.

Chandrabadni Devi Temple observes major festivals such as Chaitra Navratri (March-April), Sharad Navratri (September-October), and the Chandrabadni Mela, an annual fair held in April during the Baisakh month.

During these times, the temple comes alive with community gatherings and special bhandaras, where simple prasad and community meals are offered to devotees. Reaching the temple involves a scenic journey. Pilgrims can start from Rishikesh or Devprayag, taking NH 58 towards Devprayag.

From there, a 33 km drive through winding hill roads leads to Jamnikhal/Kandikhal. Parking is available near the base, but it can be limited during festival periods.

From the parking area, visitors must trek 1 to 1.5 km uphill via paved stairs to reach the temple, making it inaccessible for wheelchairs due to the steep terrain.

The nearest railway stations are Yog Nagri Rishikesh (103 km) and Haridwar Junction (131 km), while Dehradun Airport (Jolly Grant) is 120 km away. Accommodation options include budget and mid-range hotels in Devprayag (33 km), New Tehri (45–50 km), and GMVN rest houses in nearby towns.

Basic tea and snack shops are available at the base and the temple top for refreshments. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum, but casual photography is allowed in the outer courtyard and surrounding landscape, subject to local guidelines.

The temple’s living heritage status is maintained by a local panchayat or trust, preserving its spiritual and cultural significance for generations.

Nearby attractions include Devprayag Sangam, New Tehri & Tehri Lake, Surkunda Devi Temple in Dhanaulti, and Chamba, making Chandrabadni Devi Temple an ideal stop on a spiritual and scenic journey through Uttarakhand.
