Moteshwar Mahadev Temple

Nestled near Chaiti Maidan and Arya Nagar in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, this temple is a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking darshan and blessings.

The temple enshrines Lord Shiva as the primary deity, and the sanctum also features shrines for Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya, Lord Hanuman, Goddess Kali, and Bhairava.

The architectural style follows the Nagara (North Indian) tradition, and the temple is recognized as a living heritage site.

While the exact historical period of the temple is unknown or disputed, it is traditionally attributed to Bhimasena of the Pandavas, with the present structure remodeled in more recent times. Moteshwar Mahadev Temple is open for darshan from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Free darshan is available for all visitors. The temple conducts several poojas, including Rudrabhishek, milk and water abhishek, and daily morning aarti at 6:00 AM, as well as evening aarti during the evening hours. Poojas are performed in Sanskrit and Hindi, catering to the diverse devotee base.

The best time to visit the temple is during the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM, at evening aarti, in the winter months from November to February, or during the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Maha Shivaratri (February-March), Shravan Mela (July-August), and Chaiti Mela (March-April), when the temple sees a surge in devotees and festive activities.

Visitors are advised to adhere to the temple’s dress code: men should wear modest, traditional or conservative attire such as full-length trousers and shirts, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or kurtis with covered legs and shoulders.

Reaching Moteshwar Mahadev Temple is convenient. From Delhi, one can take NH 9 via Ghaziabad and Moradabad, turning towards Thakurdwara to reach Kashipur. Regular buses operate from Delhi ISBT Anand Vihar to Kashipur.

From the Kashipur Bus Station, the temple is about 3 km away and accessible by auto-rickshaw or cab. Kashipur Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead, just 1 km from the temple, with Ramnagar and Rudrapur City stations also within reach.

Pantnagar Airport is 60 km away, while Dehradun and Delhi airports are 176 km and 200 km respectively. Accommodation options in Kashipur range from budget lodges like Hotel Krishna Lodge and local dharamshalas to upscale hotels such as Clarks Collection Kashipur.

Photography is not permitted inside the main sanctum, but discreet photos of the outer complex may be allowed. Prasadam such as sugar, dry fruits, sweets, vibhuti, or charanamrit is distributed, with annadanam organized during major festivals.
