Lakhamandal Shiva Temple

Set on the serene banks of the Yamuna River, this temple is recognized as an ASI-protected monument and showcases the distinct Nagara (North Indian) architectural style.

The primary deity worshipped here is Lord Shiva, accompanied by Goddess Parvati, Manav, Danav, and hundreds of smaller Shiva lingams scattered throughout the temple premises. The temple is also locally known as Lakhamandal, a name that resonates deeply with the devotees in the region.

The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with the best time to visit being early mornings (5–8 AM), during the winter and summer months, on weekdays for a less crowded experience, or during the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Maha Shivaratri (February-March), Baishakhi (April 15), and the holy month of Shravan/Sawan (July-August), when the temple comes alive with special rituals and community gatherings.

Devotees can participate in poojas such as the Jal Abhishek, offering water or milk to the Shiva lingam. Rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi, maintaining the temple’s traditional sanctity.

Reaching Lakhamandal Shiva Temple involves a scenic drive from Dehradun or Mussoorie via Vikasnagar-Chakrata or Kempty Falls. From Barnigad on the Mussoorie-Yamunotri highway, a left diversion leads towards Mandali/Lakhamandal, followed by a short uphill walk from the parking area.

The nearest railway stations are Dehradun (107 km) and Rishikesh (150 km), while Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is about 130 km away.
