Mahasu Devta Temple Hanol

This ancient hill temple stands gracefully on the banks of the Tons River, surrounded by scenic Himalayan landscapes, and is recognized as an ASI-protected monument.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is also the abode of the four Mahasu brothers: Botha Mahasu, Pavasi Mahasu, Vasik Mahasu, and Chalda Mahasu, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees.

The temple welcomes visitors daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the best time to visit being early mornings, especially between 5–8 AM or 8 AM–12 PM.

Both winter (November to February) and summer (March to May) are favorable seasons for pilgrimage, while the temple comes alive during festival times.

Major festivals celebrated here include the Mahasu Devta Mela in August, Jagra Festival (Jagara Sabha) in September, Maha Shivaratri between February and March, as well as Navratri and Diwali. Darshan at Mahasu Devta Temple Hanol is free for all devotees.

Daily Aarti and Sankalpa puja (for individuals or families) are performed, with rituals conducted in Hindi. Traditional dry or sweet prasad is distributed to visitors, and communal vegetarian meals (bhojan/prasad) are offered, enhancing the spiritual experience.

Visitors are expected to follow a modest dress code: men should wear full-length trousers or dhotis with shirts or kurtas, while women are advised to dress in attire that covers legs and shoulders completely, such as salwar kameez, long skirts, or full pants with decent tops.

Photography, video recording, and mobile phone cameras are strictly prohibited inside or facing the primary sanctum, though landscape photography of the outer premises is generally tolerated with permission.

Reaching the temple involves a scenic drive from Dehradun via Mussoorie, Nainbagh, Damta, Purola, and Mori, following the Tons River to Hanol. Alternatively, one can travel from Dehradun through Vikasnagar, Kalsi, Chakrata, and Tyuni.
