About

Chaiti Devi Temple, also known as Maa Bal Sundari Temple, is a revered Shakti Peetha and pilgrimage centre located in the Arya Nagar and Jaspur Khurd area of Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand.

This ancient temple, sometimes referred to locally as Chaiti Mandir, Mata Bal Sundari Devi Mandir, Ujjaini Devi Temple, and Jwala Devi Mandir, is dedicated to Goddess Shakti.

The temple stands out with its Nagara (North Indian) architectural style and serves as a living heritage site managed by a local trust and panchayat. The temple is situated along Chaiti Mela Marg, easily accessible from Kashipur city.

Pilgrims can reach the temple by arriving at Kashipur Junction Railway Station, which is just 2.8 km away, or via road using NH 309 or NH 74. Local auto-rickshaws and cabs are readily available for the short journey from the railway station or bus stand.

For those traveling from afar, Pantnagar Airport is about 70 km away, while Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi is approximately 240 km from the temple. Chaiti Devi Temple is open for darshan from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with extended hours till 9:00 PM on peak days.

Entry for darshan is free for all devotees. The best times to visit are early morning between 5 and 8 AM, during the morning hours up to noon, or in the evening during aarti.

The temple is particularly vibrant during the winter months (November to February), festival seasons, and the annual brahmotsavam. The Chaiti Mela, held during Chaitra Navratri in March–April, draws large crowds and transforms the temple grounds into a festive hub.

Visitors are expected to adhere to a modest dress code: men are recommended to wear full-length trousers, jeans, shirts, or kurtas, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or long kurtis with dupattas. Shorts, half-pants, sleeveless vests, and revealing attire are discouraged.

For those planning an extended stay, there are several hotels within 1.5–3 km of the temple, including Hotel Gautami Heights, The Manor Kashipur, Hotel Sunshine, and Singh Hotel & Restaurant. Parking is convenient, with open areas available and expanded facilities during the Chaiti Mela.

Photography is allowed in the outer premises but strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum (Garbhagriha).

Nearby attractions include Moteshwar Mahadev Temple (0.5 km), Drona Sagar Lake (2.5 km), Giri Sarovar Lake (3 km), and Govishan Fort (3.2 km), making Chaiti Devi Temple an ideal destination for pilgrims and tourists exploring Kashipur.
