About

Marleshwar Temple, also known as Shri Marleshwar Mahadev Mandir or the Trimbakeshwar of Konkan, is a revered cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Nestled in the Sahyadri mountain ranges of the Western Ghats, this ancient pilgrimage centre is located near Maral Village in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra.

The temple is renowned for its unique rock-cut architecture and spiritual ambiance, drawing devotees and travelers seeking darshan and a tranquil retreat amidst nature.

The sanctum of Marleshwar Temple is set within a natural cave, and the primary deity worshipped here is Lord Shiva, accompanied by other deities such as Mallikarjuna, Lord Ganesha, and Goddess Girija Devi (Parvati).

The temple’s daily rituals include Aarti, Rudrabhishek, and the chanting of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, conducted in Marathi and Sanskrit. Pilgrims can participate in free darshan, with no entry fee required.

The temple is open daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, making it accessible for devotees throughout the day.

The best time to visit is during the monsoon (June to September), winter (November to February), festival seasons, or early morning hours between 5 and 8 AM, when the surroundings are especially serene.

Major festivals celebrated at Marleshwar Temple include Makar Sankranti (Marleshwar Yatra) in January, Maha Shivaratri in February–March, and Tripuri Poornima in November, when the temple comes alive with special poojas, Mahaprasad, and annadanam.

To reach Marleshwar Temple, pilgrims can travel by train or road to Ratnagiri or Sangameshwar. From there, buses or taxis are available to Devrukh, followed by a short drive to Maral Village.

Vehicles can be parked at the base, but visitors must climb approximately 520 stone steps to reach the cave temple.

The nearest railway stations are Sangameshwar Road (18 km) and Ratnagiri (50 km), while Ratnagiri Airport (60 km), Kolhapur Airport (100 km), and Pune International Airport (200 km) serve as the closest air travel options.

Basic parking is available at the base, though the temple is not wheelchair accessible due to the steps. Modest, traditional attire is encouraged for both men and women. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the cave and sanctum but permitted in the surrounding areas.

For accommodation, options include Vanalika Holiday Home (4.5 km), O'Nest Home Stay in Devrukh (12 km), The Jungle Resort Amba (9–15 km), and budget hotels in Devrukh or Sangameshwar.

Nearby attractions include the Dhareshwar Waterfall, Amba Ghat, Vishalgad Fort, Sangameshwar, and Ganpatipule Beach and Temple, offering visitors a complete spiritual and natural experience. For further information, the temple can be contacted at +919860060000.
