About

Marikamba Temple Sirsi, also locally known as Marigudi or Doddamma Temple, stands as a revered Shakti Peetha and pilgrimage centre in Marikamba Nagar, along the Sirsi-Banavasi Road in Sirsi, Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka.

This ancient temple is dedicated to Goddess Shakti/Amman, with shrines for Mahaganapati, Ishwara, and Hanumanta, making it an important spiritual destination for devotees seeking darshan and blessings.

The temple is recognized as a living heritage temple and is believed to have been built by King of Sonda (Sadashiva Raya II), though the exact historical period remains unknown or disputed. The architecture style is unique and distinct, setting it apart from other temples in the region.

Marikamba Temple is especially vibrant during major festivals such as the Sirsi Marikamba Jatre, held biennially in February-March, and Navaratri/Durga Puja in September-October.

Other celebrated occasions include Maha Shivratri, Holi, Ugadi, Gowri Habba, and Karthikotsava, drawing pilgrims from across Karnataka and beyond. The temple welcomes devotees with free darshan and offers special poojas such as Special Archana and Abhisheka, conducted in Kannada.

The daily timings are Monday, Wednesday to Sunday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and extended hours on Tuesdays and Fridays until 10:00 PM. The best time to visit is early morning between 5–8 AM, during winter (November–February), or around festival seasons for a more vibrant experience.

For those planning a visit, traditional attire is recommended—men should wear dhotis or trousers and avoid shorts, while women are advised to dress modestly in sarees or churidar suits. Paid parking is available near the temple, though the approach road can be narrow and crowded.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main shrine, and visitors are advised to leave cameras and mobile phones outside or in designated areas.

Getting to Marikamba Temple is convenient: reach Sirsi town by road or bus, then take an auto-rickshaw from the Sirsi bus stand (1–2 km) following signs for Marikamba Temple or CP Bazar.

The nearest railway stations are Talguppa (43 km), Kumta (60 km), Haveri (74 km), and Hubli (102 km), while Hubli Airport (102 km) and Goa International Airport (160 km) are the closest airports.

On-site lodging (Yatrinivasa) and several budget or mid-range hotels within a 1–2 km radius provide comfortable accommodation options for pilgrims. Free Anna Prasadam is served daily from 12:00 PM to 2:00/3:00 PM, ensuring devotees are well cared for during their visit.

Nearby attractions include Sahasralinga, Madhukeshwara Temple in Banavasi, Muregar Falls, Unchalli Waterfalls, Yana Cave Temples, Jog Falls, and Shree Swarnavalli Matha, making Sirsi an ideal base for spiritual and nature exploration.
