About

Mahadeva Temple Itagi, also known locally as Devalaya Chakravarti, Itagi Mahadev Temple, and Kalyana Chalukya Temple, is a renowned ancient temple and pilgrimage centre dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Situated in Yelburga Taluk, Itagi, in Koppal district of Karnataka, this temple stands as a remarkable example of Vesara architecture.

Built by Mahadeva Dandanayaka, the commander under Western Chalukya King Vikramaditya VI, the temple is recognized as an ASI protected monument and continues to function as a living heritage temple, attracting devotees and history enthusiasts alike.

The temple complex is open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, offering free darshan to all visitors. Devotees can participate in daily morning and evening rituals, as well as the sacred Abhisheka, conducted in Kannada and Sanskrit.

The temple celebrates important festivals such as Maha Shivaratri, Karthika Masa Pooja (October–November), and Sharavana rituals (July–August), drawing pilgrims from across the region.

After the aarti, daily prasadam is distributed, and annadanam is offered by devotees on special occasions, enhancing the spiritual experience for visitors.

Dress code at Mahadeva Temple Itagi requires clean and conservative clothing for both men and women, with shoulders and knees covered as a mark of respect.

Photography is generally allowed in the outer complex, but may not be permitted inside the sanctum; visitors are advised to follow ASI guidelines and maintain decorum.

The best time to visit the temple is during the morning hours between 5 AM and 12 PM, especially in the winter months (November–February) and during the monsoon season (June–September), when the weather is pleasant for darshan and exploration.
