About

The Kiradu Temples, located near Sihani and Hathma villages in the Ramsar region of Barmer district, Rajasthan, are a remarkable destination for devotees of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, as well as history and architecture enthusiasts.

Recognized as an ancient temple complex and an ASI-protected monument, the Kiradu Temples are also known by several local names such as Kiradkot, Kiratakupa, the “Khajuraho of Rajasthan,” and are sometimes referred to as a “ghost temple” or “cursed site.” Their mysterious aura and intricate architecture make them a unique attraction in western Rajasthan.

The temples are open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the best time to visit is during the winter months from November to February or in the early morning hours between 5:00 and 8:00 AM.

Visitors are advised to dress modestly; men should opt for shirts or t-shirts with trousers or jeans, while women are encouraged to wear salwar kameez, long skirts, or full-length trousers with appropriate tops.

Darshan at the Kiradu Temples is available with an entry fee of ₹50, and services are primarily conducted in Hindi. Maha Shivaratri, observed in February or March, is a significant festival celebrated at the Kiradu Temples, drawing pilgrims and devotees to this historic site.

However, there are no prasadam or annadanam facilities, so visitors should carry their own water and snacks for convenience. Reaching the Kiradu Temples is straightforward. Travelers can arrive in Barmer town by train or road.

From Barmer city, private taxis, cabs, or auto-rickshaws can be hired for the 35-40 km journey northwest towards Hathma village. The nearest railway stations are Barmer Railway Station (35 km away) and Khadon Railway Station (33 km away).

For those flying in, Jaisalmer Airport is 160 km away, Jodhpur Airport is 220 km away, and Jaipur International Airport is 320 km from the site. Parking is available in an open, unpaved area outside the main entrance, though the terrain is uneven and not suitable for wheelchairs.

Photography with mobile phones or casual cameras is allowed for personal use, but professional or DSLR cameras may require a commercial fee of up to ₹5,000.

There are no hotels at the temple site itself; accommodation options are available in Barmer town, including Sanchal Fort, Hotel Krishna Palace, and Hotel Kailash International.

Nearby attractions include Barmer Fort (37 km), Mahabar ke Dhore (45 km), Surya Temple (40 km), Chintamani Parshvnath Jain Mandir (38 km), and Viratra Vankal Mata Temple (60 km), making the Kiradu Temples an excellent addition to any Barmer pilgrimage or heritage tour.
