Kaila Devi Temple

Dedicated to Goddess Shakti, this ancient temple is a significant Shakti Peetha and draws devotees from across India, especially during the auspicious festival seasons. The temple is renowned for its serene location on the banks of a river, surrounded by the natural beauty of the sanctuary.

The main deity worshipped here is Goddess Shakti, and the sanctum also houses idols of Chamunda Devi, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Bhairon Ji, and Hanuman Ji. The architectural style of Kaila Devi Temple is distinctly Rajasthani, reflecting the region’s rich heritage.

Built originally by Maharaja Gopal Singh Ji of Karauli between 1723 and 1730 AD, the temple has seen several expansions by later Karauli rulers and now enjoys state heritage status, managed by a local trust. Devotees can participate in various daily poojas and rituals, all conducted in Hindi.

The temple opens early at 4:00 AM with Mangla Darshan, followed by General Darshan Opening, Shringar (Adornment), Morning Aarti & Bhog, Raj Bhog, Evening Darshan & Aarti, and concludes with Night Bhajan at 9:00 PM.

Darshan is free for all visitors, and the temple remains open daily from 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 8:30 PM, closing for rest between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM.

The best time to visit Kaila Devi Temple is during winter (November to February), the festival season, or early mornings between 5:00 and 8:00 AM.

Major festivals celebrated here include the Kaila Devi Chaitra Mela (Lakhi Mela) during Chaitra Navratri in March-April and Shardiya Navratri in October, when the temple is especially vibrant.

Reaching the temple is convenient, with the nearest railway stations being Gangapur City (35 km), Shri Mahabir Ji (25 km), and Hindaun City (32 km). The closest airports are Gwalior (144 km), Jaipur International (160 km), and Agra (182 km).

Visitors can arrive at Gangapur City or Hindaun City by train, or Jaipur/Agra by air or bus, and then take a local bus or taxi to Kaila Devi town. From Karauli town, the temple is accessible via MDR-3, about 24 km southwest.

Multiple hotels and dharamshalas, such as Prayag Residency, Amarkunj Yatri Niwas, Pratibha Hotel, and The Pachouri hotel, provide comfortable accommodation options.

Pilgrims are offered daily bhog and prasadam, with Annapurna canteen and community bhandaras serving free meals, especially during festivals. The temple provides open public and private parking, basic wheelchair support, and ramps for accessibility.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main temple premises and near the sanctum. Nearby attractions include the Kaila Devi Wildlife Sanctuary, Karauli City Palace, Shri Madan Mohan Ji Temple, Timangarh Fort, and Shri Mahavir Ji Jain Temple.
