Kolayat Kapil Muni Temple

This ancient riverbank temple is a significant destination for devotees of Lord Vishnu, with additional shrines dedicated to Kapil Muni, Devahuti, Garuda Ji, Vashishtha Ji, and Lord Shiva.

The temple’s Rajasthani architectural style and tranquil lakeside setting make it a unique spiritual retreat for visitors seeking darshan and peace. The temple is open 24 hours, allowing pilgrims to experience the sacred atmosphere at any time.

Main rituals and poojas are performed at sunrise and sunset, with the Morning Aarti & Bhog at sunrise and the Evening Sandhya Aarti at sunset. These ceremonies are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi, drawing devotees to the ghats for prayer and reflection.

Entry for darshan is free, and traditional prasadam such as coconut, sugar drops, sugar cubes, and dry fruits is distributed to visitors.

During the auspicious Kartik Purnima festival, the temple hosts the grand Kapil Muni Fair (Kolayat Fair), when large-scale annadanam is organized, attracting thousands of pilgrims.

Visitors are encouraged to observe the temple’s dress code: men should wear traditional or modest attire, avoiding shorts and sleeveless vests inside the sanctum, while women are advised to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or kurtis with dupattas, steering clear of revealing clothing.

Photography is prohibited inside the main sanctum but permitted in the outer courtyards, ghats, and lake area, allowing visitors to capture the scenic beauty of Kapil Sarovar and the temple’s surroundings. Reaching Kolayat Kapil Muni Temple is convenient.

Pilgrims can arrive in Bikaner city by train, road, or air, then travel southwest on NH 15/NH 62 for about 50–52 km to Kolayat town. The temple is easily accessible from Kolayat Railway Station, just 1 km away, and is also within reach from Bikaner Junction (41 km) and Lalgarh Junction (48 km).

The nearest airport is Civil Airport Bikaner/Nal Airport, 40 km away, with Jodhpur and Jaipur airports also serving the region. For accommodation, basic dharamshalas and a Gurudwara are available in Kolayat, while a wider range of hotels and heritage stays can be found in Bikaner city, 50 km away.
