Kaivara Amara Narayana Temple

Revered for its Dravidian architecture, this temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is also known by several local names such as Amara Narayana Temple, Gavi Sri Amara Narayana Swami Temple, Kaiwara Thathayya Cave Temple, Ekchakrapura, and Kaivara Nadu.

The temple stands near Mutt Road and Kaiwara Road, close to the scenic Bhima-Bakasura hillock, making it a spiritual and natural retreat for devotees and visitors alike.

The main deity worshipped here is Lord Vishnu, accompanied by other deities including Sridevi, Bhoodevi, Rama, Seetha, Lakshmana, Krishna, Hanuman, Bhimalingeshwara, Dharmalingeshwara, Parthalingeswara, Nakuleshwara, Sahadevalingeshwara, and Parvati.

The temple is renowned for its living heritage and is recognized as a state heritage site, with its origins attributed to the Hoysala Emperor Bittiga (Vishnuvardhana).

Devotees can participate in various poojas such as Maha Pooja, Madhyahna Pooja, Saayam Pooja, Panchamrutha Abhisheka, Vishnu Sahasranaama, and Jeeva Samadhi Pooja. The Samoohika Sathya Narayana Pooja is performed on every Full Moon (Hunnime) day. Rituals are primarily conducted in Kannada.

The temple offers free darshan to all visitors. The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM, and again in the evening until 8:30 PM. The best time to visit is early morning between 5 and 8 AM or during the winter months from November to February.

A traditional dress code is encouraged: men are advised to wear dhotis or long pants, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or churidars.

Major festivals celebrated here include Brahma Rathotsava in March (on the Full Moon day), Jeeva Samadhi Anniversary in May/June (3rd day of Jyeshta), Guru Pooja in June/July (Ashada month), and the Monthly Hunnime on every Full Moon.

Reaching Kaivara Amara Narayana Temple is convenient from Bengaluru via Old Madras Road (NH 75) to Hoskote or via NH 44 to Devanahalli, then to Vijayapura and Kaiwara. From Chikkaballapur, travel southeast towards Chintamani and follow signs to Kaiwara.

The nearest railway stations are Chintamani (13 km) and Bangarapet (50 km), while Kempegowda International Airport (BLR), Bengaluru, is 55 km away. Ample parking is available near the Ashram, and the temple is wheelchair accessible with a flat entryway.

Photography is permitted in the outer precincts but strictly prohibited inside the sanctum sanctorum. Free lunch (prasadam) is served daily at the Ashram between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
