Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple

This temple is an important pilgrimage centre and an ASI-protected monument, celebrated for its Dravidian architecture and deep spiritual significance.

The temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva, with shrines for Parvati, Nandi, Arunachaleshwara, Uma-Maheshwara, and Nagas, making it a significant destination for devotees seeking darshan and blessings.

The temple’s origins trace back to the Chola period, initially constructed by Bana Queen Ratnavali in the early 9th century.

Over the centuries, it saw contributions from the Nolamba, Rashtrakuta, Ganga, Chola, Hoysala, and Vijayanagara dynasties, resulting in a rich tapestry of architectural and cultural influences. Its status as an ASI monument ensures preservation of its intricate carvings and historic ambiance.

Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple welcomes visitors daily from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM. The best times to visit are early mornings between 5 and 8 AM, during the evening aarti, or in the winter months from November to February for a serene experience.

The temple observes a strict dress code: men are required to wear full-length trousers or traditional dhotis, while women should wear sarees, long dresses, or chudidhars; shorts, mini-skirts, and sleeveless tops are not permitted.

Devotees can participate in free darshan and attend daily poojas conducted in Kannada and Sanskrit. The main rituals include Morning Abhishekam at 7:00 AM, Madhyahna Pooja at 12:00 PM, and Evening Aarti from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

During major festivals like Shivarathri (February–March) and the annual Brahmotsava, the temple attracts large gatherings of pilgrims. Prasadam is distributed after the main poojas, and a simple annadanam featuring rice and sambar is served at lunchtime.

Photography is permitted in the outer courtyards and near the temple tanks, but strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum. There are no camera fees.

Reaching Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple is convenient from Bengaluru via NH44, passing Kempegowda International Airport and Devanahalli, then turning at Nandi Cross towards Nandi Village.

For public transport, KSRTC buses and trains connect Bengaluru to Chikkaballapur, with auto-rickshaws available for the final stretch. Ample free parking is available near the North gate, with generally flat and accessible paths, including some wheelchair-friendly routes.
