About

Jagannath Temple Hyderabad, also known as Shri Jagannath Temple or Banjara Hills Jagannath Temple, is a prominent pilgrimage centre located in the upscale Banjara Hills area of Hyderabad, Telangana.

Built in the modern era by the Kalinga Cultural Trust and consecrated in 2009, this temple stands as a spiritual and cultural landmark for devotees of Lord Vishnu and the Odia community in the city.

The temple is renowned for its striking Kalinga architectural style, reminiscent of the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri. The main sanctum is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, worshipped here as Jagannath, accompanied by Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

Other deities enshrined within the temple complex include Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva, Goddess Vimala, and the Navagraha, making it a significant destination for devotees seeking darshan and blessings from multiple Hindu gods.

Darshan at Jagannath Temple Hyderabad is free for all visitors. The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with Mangala Aarti performed at 6:00 AM and Sandhya Aarti at 7:00 PM.

Various poojas and rituals are available, including Archana, Gotranama Archana, Kumkuma Archana, Namakaranam (Naming Ceremony), Abhishekam to Navagraha, Sankata Hara Abhishekam, Rahu Ketu Pooja, Nitya Seva, and Vastralankar with Puja, conducted in languages such as Sanskrit, Odia, Telugu, Hindi, and English.

Free basic dry prasad is distributed after daily aratis, and devotees can purchase traditional Odia sweets like Khaja and Gaja or request special Mahaprasad or Anna Prasad.

The temple observes several vibrant festivals throughout the year, including Mahabishuva Sankranti (Odia New Year) in April, Deba Snana Purnima and Ratha Yatra in June-July, Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi in August-September, Durga Puja and Deepavali in October-November, Makara Sankranti and Basanta Panchami in January-February, Maha Shivaratri in February-March, and Sri Rama Navami in March-April.

The best time to visit is during evening aarti, winter months (November to February), or the festival season.

Visitors are expected to follow a traditional dress code: men should wear dhotis, kurtas, or neat trousers and shirts, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or modest kurtis.

Photography and mobile phone usage are strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, though exterior photography is allowed from the courtyard. The temple is easily accessible from various parts of Hyderabad.

From Secunderabad or Hyderabad Central, pilgrims can reach Banjara Hills via Necklace Road or Mehdipatnam. The nearest metro stations are Yusufguda and Jubilee Hills Check Post, from where auto-rickshaws are available. TSRTC buses also connect Mehdipatnam and Lakdi-ka-pul to Banjara Hills.

The nearest railway stations include Hyderabad Deccan (6.5 km), Kacheguda (8.5 km), and Secunderabad Junction (10.5 km), while Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is about 28 km away.

For accommodation, a wide range of premium, mid-range, and budget hotels are available within 2–4 km in Banjara Hills and Ameerpet, including Taj Banjara, ITC Kohenur, Trident, Hotel Golkonda, and budget OYO/FabHotels.

Nearby attractions include KBR Park, Birla Temple, Hussain Sagar Lake, and Golconda Fort. The temple provides dedicated parking, though it may get crowded during festivals, and offers limited wheelchair access due to traditional stone steps. For more information, devotees can visit the official website or contact the temple directly.
