Harihareshwara Temple

This temple, renowned for its Hoysala architectural style, is recognized as an ASI-protected monument and draws devotees and history enthusiasts alike.

Built by Polalva, a commander and minister under Hoysala King Vira Narasimha II, with later improvements by Soma during King Narasimha III’s reign, the temple is a testament to Karnataka’s rich heritage.

The temple is dedicated to a unique form of divinity and also houses the shrine of Goddess Lakshmi. As a riverbank temple, Harihareshwara Temple offers a serene spiritual atmosphere, making it a sought-after destination for darshan and pooja rituals.

The temple timings are from 5:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with the best time to visit being early morning hours (5–8 AM) or during the pleasant winter months from November to February.

Devotees can participate in several poojas conducted in Kannada and Sanskrit, including the Morning Pooja (6:00 AM – 7:00 AM), Midday Alankara Pooja (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM), Evening Aarti (7:00 PM – 8:00 PM), Morning Puja (8:00 AM – 8:15 AM), Maha Puja (12:00 PM – 12:15 PM), Night Puja (8:00 PM onwards), and Shani Pooja.

Free darshan is available to all visitors. Prasadam is distributed after aartis, with special offerings like pinda pradhana during Tula Sankramana and annadanam sponsored by devotees during major festivals.

The temple celebrates vibrant festivals such as Tula Sankramana (October–November), Vaikuntha Ekadashi (December–January), Navratri (September–October), Deepavali (October–November), and Mahashivratri (February–March).

Traditional and modest clothing is recommended for both men and women; shorts and revealing outfits should be avoided. Reaching Harihareshwara Temple is convenient. From Davangere, visitors can take the Pune-Bangalore highway (NH-48/NH-4) toward Harihar town.

The temple is located in the Fort area, about 1–1.5 km from the main Harihar bus stand, and is easily accessible by auto-rickshaw or KSRTC buses. The nearest railway station is Harihar (1.5 km), while Davangere Railway Station is 15 km away.

For air travelers, Hubballi Airport is 150 km and Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, is 280 km from the temple. Limited parking is available near the entrance, with more space on the main road during busy days.

Visitors should note there are several steps to the main Mandapa, which may pose challenges for those with mobility issues. Photography is permitted in the outer premises but not inside the inner sanctum; professional equipment may be restricted.
